Update Failure

During software update process, the process was automatically stopped and a warning sign is displayed with the warning as "The software update failed. Make sure the phone is connected to the computer and try again". I had not disconnected the phone during the process. Now my phone does not start even after I disconnect and press the power button.

Please help.

Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues after an upgrade - This will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

I experienced the same problem attempting to update the software on my Xperia Z, but I couldn't get passed step 1 of the proposed solution. The phone is now not responding to anything, including the attempted reset. I tried several times holding down the power and volume up buttons - got a few vibrations, but the same message "The software update failed. Make sure your phone is connected to the computer and try again." The phone is currently completely useless. Please help!! (Wished I had read all of the problems with this update before I tried it.)

Hi there,

I tried to update my phone xperia z (C6603) a week ago while it was working fine; somehow update failed and all I see is a red light and update failed message. Now when I connect it to laptop or other PC, they cannot recognise my phone and PC companion cannot find it. All I can see on laptop is 'SOMC flash device' in the device manager (in USB section)

The phone is new with new cable and I have done all the checks mentioned in countless sites and blogs.

I have read posts about repair but how can I repair if I cannot even connect to PC companion.

Any workable suggestions will be appreciated
