hey.
just woke up after charging to phon all night and the back and home button not working everthing was fine before, what can i do?
Hello everyone,
After the OTA update yesterday, I encounter many problems with my Z5 Compact Black
Multitasking, "Home" button and shortcuts (WiFi, Bluetooth, Plane, ...) doesn't work anymore
Do some of you encounter the same problems?
Thanks.
All is well after a clean software repair
I have the same issiue now on my XPERIA Z5 COMPACT. I tried everything there is to do but since i had this phone thrre times (!) already for reapairs I now bought a new one.
No more sony phones for me
Yes I have the same issue, it's so annoying.
A while ago I got a tiny crack in the top of the right hand corner and it made the screen unusable, why is it I see other people with completely smashed up screens but the phone still works????
So got the screen replaced.. 1 yr later;
Now the home, back buttons don't work.. This is a weakness I won't be buying another Sony again..
People are pointing out the same problem, and all you do is give the same canned template reply that does nothing.
Good job, Sony.
I cannot use my back home button
I had a similar problem on a brand new Sony Xperia XA which stopped working a few hours after initial setup.
Amazon technician advised me that this was a common problem and we arranged for return and refund AND THEN ... the same thing happened on my existing trustworthy and long running XA.
Cause? trying to use it with a non-standard charger. The cable fits and the phones charge, but the lower part of the touch screen gets disabled.
I've rebotted my new phone and will see how it goes for the next few days, but it looks as though that was the problem.
turn on 'glove mode' in display setting its help u a lot.

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried everything else repair etc and no go but your suggestion (glove mode) got me working again. Some interesting observations :
- The screen does not seem to be registering my tap accurately in the control buttons part of the screen now after Xperia Companion repair (I can see this because the phone now flashes a circle around the point where it thinks I tapped - is that a part of Glove function?) so I am guessing that this may be the swansong for my phone (pity it's only three years old - Z5 Compact - and been a good phone until now).
- When I did the Screen diagnostic originally I could see that the bottom of the screen was not clearing but... after the repair function with Xperia Companion the screen diagnostic was modified so that it did not allow you to test clearing the portion of the screen which contains the bottom set of buttons......... Why would the test change like this????? Looks like a bit of an own goal there....
- For a couple of months before the buttons stopped working I was unable to swipe to Camera from the lock screen and had to try several times to swipe for unlock function before it would show an unloack screen. Hope this helps anyone who is experiencing these same symptoms and save them from a reset/Repair by trying glove mopde first.
Once again thanks Northenjohn
I have the same issue. I can wipe the screen fully in the test program so my touchscreen works 100%. The glove mode solution is not helping for me. But with the manual below at least I could click the back button.
When I turn the phone horizontal, front camere left. The screen goes in horizontal mode. The buttons stay on the right, same position on the screen. They don' t respond.
When I turn the phone to left. The phone is horizonally mode again. The buttons still at the same place BUT now the magicly respond!
This only works for apps with left horizonal mode like; Chrome, android settings.
Camera it does not work, because it has no left horizontal mode. The work around to go back to home screen. Lock, Unlock phone with power button. Open settings. Turn to horizonal mode and click home button.
