Xperia X10 upgrades for Android?

Will sony provide Android upgrades to their Xperia X10 that is stil on Andriod 1.6? Google announced Android 2.2 a while back. I am expecting, at least an upgrade to Android 2.0 or 2.1. However, an upgrade to 2.2 would mean access to so many more flash applications.

The upgrade for XPERIA X10 will be available in 4th quarter this year, 2010... Nothing till then, at least for this model..

Thanks for the information. Do you know the version to which the upgrade will be - Android 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2?

Also, is this official release date?

At this point upgrade only planned for Android 2.1.

Further upgrades have been quoted online as "in the future".

Has to do with SE user interface & how it interacts with Android.

So major update followed by a minor but cool one of wireless content on TV.

Xperia X10 is not sold and supported by any mobile company in US.  how would I get the Android update 2.1?  I kept updating the phone, it kept saying I have the latest software (which is 1.6).  When will this update be available in US?  Is the only way to update it through SE update?

Since your in the states I'm guessing your x10 is unbranded.

Unbranded means it is a clean android system without extra carrier stuff.

For example mine comes with a soccer app & account viewer as I'm with Optus in Aus & they are pushing soccer world cup at the moment.

Your handset will update when it is released in your region.

You can update by simply plugging in phone & using Sony Ericsson PC Companion.

Another method to update:

Your handset will tell you in the notifcation bar when updates are available in your region

Turn on wifi

Go into settings

Scroll to software update

Touch network & set for wifi only (saves data usage)

Touch "update now"

And away you go

Thank you very much. it helps.  But i do have a little problem with SE.  They told me that the update won't be available till Q4, it could be 12/31/10........    just don't know why the same program update can be available for all regions.

Official info is what I wrote, because it is stated on SE site. So ask SE for exact date, but their support probably dont know that yet because it would be stated on the site... like many other things they dont know...
