After upgrading to firmware 14.3.A.0.757 using PC companion, I'm not able to connect my Sony Xperia Z1 using USB cable for transfering files to my PC anymore. The Internal storage & SD card connected doesn't appear in the status bar anymore.
My device is not rooted.
Inspecting the problem closer, I've noted that Settings > Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity screen doesn't have the option USB connection mode anymore. By the way, below Wireless Media Transfer, there's a gray (disabled) option showing Pair with PC > Set [USB connection mode] to [Media transfer mode (MTP)].
Reboot didn't work, as well as rebooting with the USB cable connected.
Then I have enabled the Developer options (by clicking 7 times the Settings > About phone > Build number) and then I enabled USB debugging. Using "adb logcat", and looking for "usb" log entries, I have seen the following messages:
I/MTP-usbux.Class( 2866): Action = android.hardware.usb.action.USB_STATE I/MTP-usbux.UsbService( 2866): isMscMode = false, isMtpMode = false
Also, the following warning message repeats a lot of times (at least once for each time I unlock the device):
W/ContextImpl( 2866): Calling a method in the system process without a qualified user: android.app.ContextImpl.startService:1519 android.content.ContextWrapper.startService:494 android.content.ContextWrapper.startService:494 com.sonyericsson.usbux.service.UsbServiceReceiver.onReceive:58 android.app.ActivityThread.handleReceiver:2481
Also, when I do
$ adb shell getprop sys.usb.config
I get
adb
I was expecting to see "mass_storage,adb" or "mtp, adb".
This problem is getting on my nerves as I cannot connect my device on my PC anymore. I have also tried to connect using Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04, without success. Before the firmware upgrade, I was able to connect using both operating systems.
Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Have you tried connecting in flash mode so that you could potentially reflash the firmware with PC Companion? Just connect the handset to the PC with the phone powered off whilst holding the volume down button.

Yeah, sure. In the end I went so sad with this all that I just installed Sony SUS, and wiped everything out.
But this solution s.... I have spent a lot of time backing up all my data using Wifi, and after that another couple of hours to put all my stuff back (and some things couldn't be recovered, including some one-time buyings from Google Play).
Next time I'll think twice if I will upgrade anything coming from Sony... This is not my first time: I had several other Sony devices, all had problems when upgrading, I really don't know why I insisted buying Sony...
I know how you feel. I've spent days drying to get my xperia tablet usb connectivity working again after "upgrading" from 4.3 to 4.4. Never Sony or Android again. They make MS look good.
