Hi, I have a VGN S1-XP and I want to do an XP reinstall but the dreaded Mitsushita CD drive has stopped working . So, I want to boot from a USB attached cd drive. I can't see an option to do that in the BIOS. Anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks
Hi mydogatebob,
Sorry, it's not possible.
The third party boot options are: -
1. 1.44 MB Floppy Disc Drive connected by USB
2. CD Drive connected by PC Cardbus slot
I have to say that I have not tried 2.
May easier to replace the CD Drive - I have attached a disassembly manual.
Yes it is possible, but only if you have the right pendrive. I have done it on the Vaio, but I can not remember how to do it and lost the link to a website when the laptop crashed.

I know that the Phoenix BIOS can support USB boot but I can't find a version for the VAIO that has it. Iy can't be that difficult can it?
Impossible - but if you don't believe me you can continue to waste your time.
