Audio drivers for downgrading to xp on AR51M

Hi
today I got my new laptop and my first job is to get XP on it.
I have managed to get practically everything working in XP except for the audio. I've been looking all over to try and sort this out but no matter what I try I cant get it working.

Ive tried the vista drivers and drivers from various places.

I currently have 2 problems.

1. Pop up on windows start:

Rthdcpl - EAccessViolation

2. SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC - yellow ! in device manager with error 10 - device cant start.

Can anyone point me to some drivers that will work?

what wifi drivers are you guys using?

I am pretty sure that I downloaded this from the Intel Page

http://support.intel.com/support/notebook/sb/CS-006408.htm

Sorry to be a little vague, but with my small amount of computer knowledge
some of the drivers that I managed to get going was using the
"Suck it and see Method".

Here is what is written in my Device Manager =

"Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN"

ok i have everything working under xp except the fn keys (and extra keys such as eject) and the hardware sound device disabled.

I've not found anything on the web thats useful for the fn keys.

I would also like to get the sound device working at some point.

I have all the drivers collected together so it would be great to get these 2 last things working so i can zip them all up and upload them somewhere.

I'm still struggling to find the audio and video drivers for my AR51E (windows XP). Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
JT

p.s. The link earlier to the audio driver is down (removed on the website)

Dear JT,
I have written "How to get Audio "
HERE
http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio/GB/en/forum/viewthread?thread=49761&offset=0#236778

If you find it a bad LINK Try this

First Go to "Control Panel" then "Add & Remove" and remove
kb835221
If you have not installed kb835221 then don't worry
If you have, and you can't see it in "Add & Remove"
Click on Add/Remove Windows Components it should then show itself.

Second go to
LINK
http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/06/11/81540.aspx

And download the later Driver kb888111 for your version XP

Third Go to "Control Panel" then "SYSTEM" then "Hardware" then
"Device Manager" and uninstall Realtek

Next go to this LINK
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O29PZ470

And download Audio.rar

Install this,
With my AR51M I got my sound

This has been through a lot of help from others on this Forum
all I have done, is used a bit of advice from each

I would like to thank

Regards to your Screen,
Go to this LINK =
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/3

Download Driver No 156.65
Make a Directory (Folder)
Unzip 156.65 into that directory (Folder)
Remove .inf file called nv4dispd.inf, from that directory (Folder)
replace it with the nv4dispd.inf that Laptopvideo2go have modified
I have attached this inf file

We should thank Laptopvideo2go for their hard work with a small
donation to keep them going, we would not have our screens working
if it was not for their knowledge

Best Regards

Tony

Thanks for the responses guys. I figured it out last night.

The bit I didn't do with the graphics driver, was downloading the INF file too. I should have read the instructions more carefully! 🙂

Nipper: The audio driver link did eventually work, but the driver didn't. After some searching on the web, I came across an italian page (translated by Google) which pointed to the XP downgrade files for the FZ21 Vaio and these worked on my machine.

I still have an HD audio exclamation mark, and the modem driver - but the sound works fine, so i've disabled these in device manager.

All is working perfectly now - and god, what a speed increase under XP! I have two more questions though....

(1) Did anyone get the function / volume / eject buttons working under XP yet?

(2) How do you fix the memory card reader icon under my computer? Saw a post somewhere on this forum about it, but can't find it again!

Managed to fix the memory card icon, but has anyone got the function keys working yet??

Dear JT,
No I could not get the Eject or the FN Screen Contols working,
but the Audio Volume and Mute, both work OK.
I could not get the EJECT working either and as I have stated earlier I am using this little piece of software.

http://www.vicman.net/cd-eject/index.htm

No trouble at all simple and works a treat and it is free but I sent $5 USD

(The design of the mechanical button on the side is close on being stupid as well as fidly

Plug a 3.5mm plug into your Audio Output Socket to make sure your internal speakers
are muted

My four year old HP X 17" XP Home, ran better than the Brand new AR51M on Vista.
But as you find the AR51M on XP-Pro is an amazing piece of gear.

Dear ?
This chap Terry has been a great help with this FN EJECT S1 & S2 Problem
Please go here

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=213580

Use the second one down
The New improved Version 2, washes whiter - guaranteed Version.

It worked great for me, at first I was not sure if the S1 & S2 Keys
were working, I then downloaded the AR51 Manual, because you loose it when you downgrade, this made me realise that I had not installed the Vaio
Control Centre.
After reading the Manual and installing the Vaio Control Centre everything worked a 100%, I used the AR21M Vaio Control Centre from their utils.

Many thanks again Terry

Because a couple of AR51 owners have found this procedure slightly complicated, and I'm not sure of how much you will be confident in carrying out this task if it does not look simple enough for you then I can simplify it

Please don't take offence I had to do it twice before I did it without making a mistake

Best Regards,

Tony

Nice one fella. That worked perfectly on my AR51E. Now i've got a fully functional XP Vaio! (The way it SHOULD have been produced)
