KDL-40NX800 Wifi problem - TV shuts off

Hi

My KDL-40NX800 (FW PKG4.092EUH-0108) was connected to a wireless lan using an old Fujitsu-Siemens Connect2Air router.  Everything worked fine.

I now replaced the router with a D-Link DIR-655 (Rev B1 FW 2.00).  All devices work correctly (laptop, PC, PDA,...), except  for the TV set.

First time scanning for the network on the TV worked fine.  I was able to identify the SSID, enter the WPA key and indicate the automatic configuration of IP address.  Everyhting seemed to go well, TV indicated both local and internet access are ready, untill the TV decided to switch itself off.

Since then, as long as the wireless network of the Bravia remains enabled, the TV switches itself off, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes.

It is now impossible to enter the network configuration because it will switch off the TV again.

Two questions:

- what can be the cause of the malfunction?  incompatibility with the router?

- how to fix it?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

TV shouldn't be shutting down automatically. I'd do a full reset of the TV and if that doesn't resolve it, give the call centre a buzz and they can suggest a route to get it repaired. It should be a simple job.

Thanks

additional info:

could it be related to the driver Bravia uses for the WLAN adapter?

I just added another laptop into the wireless lan, and it also crashed with a BSOD.  After some web searches i decided to upgraded the driver for the wifi adapter and now it works fine.  no more BSOD.  the laptop has worked before in different wireless networks with the old driver.

Could it be that the Bravia needs a more recent driver?

thanks

reset to factory defaults didn't help. I'll call Sony tomorrow & keep you posted.

Thanks

I have to tell you that I'm glad it's not just me!!!

We recently purchased a brand new KDL-55NX810 and it does the same thing!  We also have a D-Link router...which works fine with the Sony Blu-ray player but not the TV.  We've taken every avenue available to get this problem resolved and no one knows what the problem is.  We were told that a service center would have to replace 'the board' for the TV but the service guy says the parts are on backorder.  That was over a month and a half ago.  We were also told by Sony that we could get a "reconditioned" TV to replace the brand new one (2 weeks old) one we just bought for no extra money!  What a deal!  Not!  Or our other option was to receive a brand new one (exactly like the one we just bought) for "extra money".  We asked how much extra we would be charged for our new TV and the gal from Sony said she'd have to get back to us on that.  That was 2 weeks ago and we still haven't heard from anyone.

We contacted the store we purchased the TV from and they offered to let us exchange this TV for another just like it (which was really nice of them to do).  We did that, got the 2nd version of this TV home and have the exact same problem.  I'm thinking of purchasing a different router to try.  The one we have works fine but I'm thinking maybe it's a compatibility issue....I have no idea.  If you have gotten a solution from anyone, please share because Sony will not be helping with this issue.

I also hope someone can help!

Thanks!

Hi

One positive thing is that i'm not alone with this issue.

I got feedback from Sony service : it's not our problem, check with the supplier of the router. *doh*

So I opened a case at D-Link, no news yet (since 4-5 days now).

If I get any more news I'll post it here.

Thats not cool. The TV shouldn't be rebooting itself period! Give your local service centre a call and get them to take a look at it. Just double check you are running the latest firmware on the TV. Does it also work if you are connected via Ethernet as well? If you could confirm that, it might help them diagnose..

Thanks

wired connection :  works

called sony service center and they asked me to reply to their previous email (the one where they say they can't help me).  Did so, and now they repeat it's not their problem and they won't help me.

Great service @ Sony...

I'll consider that next time I buy something.

Anyone got another phone number (i called Belgian service desk)?

meanwhile still no reply from D-Link

personal consumers are worth crap to those companies, only the €€€€€ that counts

Hi the number you require is Tel:(32)70-222-130, i am not sure why this is happening with the D-link, can you try your old router and check it works ok with that, If so I am not sure if Sony Belgium would need to investigate the TV and the router to identify what the problem is with the 2.

Update

I got this case through to Sony support several weeks ago now, but unfortunately they haven't come up with anything usefull yet.

So meanwhile I did some further testing myself and I figured out that the router supports multiple wireless standards, e.g. 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n.

The D-Link router allows configuration of different combinations of these standards, e.g. b only, g only, b & g, g & n, b & g & n,...

My conclusion is : Any combination that includes 802.11n will make the Bravia TV shut itself off !

Can anyone confirm this?

It woulb be nice to hear Sony's opinion about this, and wether they plan on supporting 802.11n in the near future.

Cheers
