How to properly turn on the Xperia X8. (Android 2.1)

When the phone is turned on and you press the power/lock key, I'm not sure if I'm using the right word but, it goes into sleep mode.

From that, how do you properly turn it on? Do you use the power/lock key again? The menu key? The home key? The back key?

I see a lot of videos in YouTube showing people turning it back on with the power/lock key. Is this right? I just want to make sure.

One more thing, if I have been turning it on the wrong way, does that put my phone at risk?
