WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "DAV" AND "HCD"?

Sony has numerous models and variations for Digital Audio Video (DAV) home cinema systems.

eg DAV-S400, DAV-S550 etc. The manuals for these products usually also make references to

HCD-S400, HCD-S550 etc, If you download manuals for say the HCD product, you get the DAV manual.

There are differences otherwise why would Sony have the different prefixes?

Interestingly, the response from Sony Support was to compare the detailed specifications!

I am sure I am not the first person who has asked this question so anyone who has the

answer please post back here. I am sure even the "experts" at Sony Support will be grateful.:smileycry:

as far as I am aware the HCD-S400 is the DVD/CD, tuner part (minus speakes, etc) of the DAV-S400 set-up..
