I finally received the Android Lollipop update today and updated my phone. Everything seems to be ok, aside from two things.
Number one and most important one to me is the missing Notes widget, which I was using all the time! I see that the app is still there (thankfully), but the widget is gone, and I want to get it back.
Number two is the annoying Google Play Services update notification that just keeps popping up even though clicking it just opens it in Play Store and does nothing, there is no update available.
I'm fairly certain the notification issue will be resolved quickly, but what about the Notes widget? Why was it removed? It worked just fine for me, and I've taken a look in the Play Store for a decent replacement, but no luck yet, as all the offers are either crap (design or implementation-wise) or too complex (I don't need anything fancy, just simple notes).
If there is no way to get it back, can someone at least recommend me an alternative closely resembling the original Notes widget?

Google/Android has killed the widgets on the lock screen
You can use "Keep"
Settings > apps > all > playstore > clear data > uninstall updates > restart the phone

Not lock screen... The main screen when you unlock the phone.
I'll check Google Keep out, looks decent. The Google Play Store pictures didn't feature a screenshot of the widget, so I discarded it immediately.
The one that comes built in.
This is what the widget looked like: http://www.droiddog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/The-Sony-Xperia-Z-Launcher-Has-Been-Ported-To-Sev...
You could flip vertically back and forth between notes, tap to open them in the app, and add them with the left button. This is really as minimalistic as you can get, and this widget was perfect for me, but for some dumb reason they have removed it. Google Keep is nice, but it is not as minimalistic.
You could contact Sony regarding this

Perhaps @Johan could comment on this.
Meh, I just moved all my notes to Google Keep.
I use keeps all the time, it's great, having access to your notes on any device its quite useful
Well I don't really need to access it on "any device". I usually use it for small stuff like measurements of stuff in my new appartment or things to buy next time I go to the shop.
Besides, I can always access my phone, so even if I could read the notes on another device, I don't need to - I have my phone right next to me.
Sony also removed the quick toggles in lollipop.
As for the notes widget you can try this http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sony-mobile-communications/notes-widget/notes-widget-1-0-0-3-android-ap...
