Hello,
* Symptoms: While I am typing something in Messenger, the Messaging app or Whatsapp (I haven't tested with more apps), the apps randomly drop focus on keybord and try to "click" on previous messages in the discussion. The result could be that a link or picture present in the discussion gets open, a word in a message gets highlighted and a pop-up menu asking me what to do with the selected word appears, or simply focus on keybord is lost and I have to tap in the editing zone again and TRY to finish typing the message. While the most obvious problem is with these apps, it seems like the phones also misinterprets how I tap on the screen when I do other things. This seem less frequent though, or at least the symptoms are less visible.
* Timeline / actions taken so far:
1. The problem appeared for a the first time a few weeks ago (after 3+ years without a single problem).
2. I ran the diagnostic tests and all the hardware passed the tests (I thought maybe the touchscreen's hardware was getting old, but apparently not).
3. I did a factory reset on the phone, and the problem disapeared completly for a few weeks.
4. But today I started to consistently have the same problem again.
5. This time I have tried to reboot in safe mode, and I still have the same problem with the Messaging app shipped with the phone (the one I send SMS with). So it seems like the problem isn't linked to the installation of any 3rd party app.
I have used the Companion tool to backup and restore my data after the hard reset. I hope that if there was some sort of malware/virus present before the factory reset, it didn't get re-injected by the Companion tool after the reset.
Otherwise, it seems like there's a bug somewhere in the software layer that interprets touchscreen input.
What can I do to narrow down the problem, and fix it? (roll-back driver updates? something else?...)
Thanks!
