Restoring notes from PC companion

Hey guys,

Not sure who can help with this really, I usually do a backup with the Sony Companion utility, which was fine and not usually a problem.

My original Z developed that no ibrate fault and long story short I now have a new Xperia Z. The problem I have now is that I cannot do a restore to the device because it is on the new updated firmware and there appears to be no restore or even backup feature on the companion software any longer.

Contacts, not bothered about, since that is backed up to Google anyway, text messages I can live without! The one I am trying to retreive though is the notes part from before they took my old handset away!

Believe it or not they kept my phone for around 9 weeks and that was incidentally when all the new updates occurred too, so at the moment I am a bit of a loss as to how to restore the notes!

Any help or pointing me in the right direction would be helpful!

Thanks!

Just to update anyone else who fell into a similar predicament as myself, I just finished talking with Hayley from the online chat support.

Apparently the Official SOny PC companion, does not support this! Basically it will only do a complete restore to the same IMEI device, regardless if I have the same phone and same firmware!!

That was her official answer from Sony.

Thanks in advance to anyone who was going to look into this, but seems it is a bit of a lost cause.

As far as I know, you should have the backup and restore option in PC Companion with the old backup when you connect another Xperia Z to your PC.

Are you sure that you have scrolled to the right in PC Companion to see if the option is there? Try to connect your Xperia Z in another USB port on your PC.

If you can't find your old backup in PC Companion  you can go to: Documents\Sony\Sony PC Companion\phone backup in your PC.

There you should find your backup as a .dbk file. - copy that file to, for example, your desktop. Change the name of the file from .dbk to .zip. Open the zip file and go to > files > content > where you should find your notes saved as .png files.

When I went into my documents and found the Sony>PC Companion folder all I found after that was an Applications folder which stored further folders such as com.sonyericsson.notes and when I tried to open that back up it only showed me rubbish on a note pad. I am not sure how else to access my old notes.

I don't understand how my notes were wiped in the first place but I am desparate to retireve some of them, at least.

Can any one help me?

Thank you

I keep all sorts on my notes ap (no passwords, obviously) but important things to me, like present ideas, some of my latest outgoings and genreal thoughts. It is useless to anyone but me, and I go on it almost every day. Today however I went on to find i had 0 notes! I had 20 only 2 days ago.

Not only is this just another problem I have had with my Xperia SP, but I just don't understand how or why they would have vanished? I also have no idea how to restore them. Most of my data is backed up using Google, my SMS & my contacts, my Dropbox automatically stores all of my images & video. But I didn't know how to back up my Notes app as there wasn't a clear settings link for it.

I have tried looking on my Sony PC Companion for at least the orignal information, when I transferred my data from my Samsung to my Sony... but there doesn't appear to be anything stored.

I am now at a loss as to what to do/where to look next.

Can anyone help, please?

Thank you
