Power button problem

Hi

since today I have a problem with the power button. I can push it, but nothing will happen. It doesn´t matter how hard I push it.

I have to push it several times before I can use my mobile (it is not off, it´s in "sleep mode" or whatever you call it)

Thanks for all suggestions

I have the exact problem with the power button of my sony xperia z1 compact today, i can push it but nothing happen, but i can hear it "clicking" everytime i push it, so i know that it isn't broken.
So the solution is, you can find a little red button on the same slot to put your sim card, there's written "off" you can push that for about 3-5 second until your phone vibrate 3 times, and your phone will be turned off.
After the phone turned off, you just push the power button again to turn it on, it's somehow works again!
No personal data will be lost after you push that little red button, it just turned your phone down. I did oush that and nothing is lost nor deleted, infact my power button start working again....

Hope this information will be use full

Chaps i know this isn't a fix (much like the camera button), but i've found quick consecutive presses will wake it. annoying, but it gets it turned on.

I've had the Sony Xperia Z1 now for around a year and a half almost. It was working completely fine today then suddenly the power button stopped working. I can switch the screen on by putting the charger in, but this is inconvenient when out, and switch the screen off by leaving it the minute or so. However, this is very inconvenient. I have tried restarting using the red button, but after restarting it still does not work. Any responses/fixes would be great.

I have exactly the same problem now for few weeks got so bad now it takes me at least 10 attempts before it comes on and the rest of the phone tiptop condition always in a case after 18 months so cant upgrade yet without cost. The insurance company said they'll wipe the phone as it's a fault on the phone!!?? What? It's a design fault.. Grrrr

Hey guys, I have the same problem for a few weeks on my 2 year z1 compact.
in my case it's clearly a software error, sometimes the button does not react at all and sometimes it reacts like normal.

has anyone rooted his device and instaled a new OS? maybe thats one way to get rid of the problem...

regards

Had the same problem yestarday - fortunately the solution by Jane1 worked well:

Been having some of the same issues... yet they are significantly different to mention.

It began with the power button not working some of the time.

Then the problem became more frequent.

Now my phone won't turn on anymore.

Please help Crying_Face

Edit: wanted to mention the phone is still withing the 2 year warranty period but the phone company (gsmeasy.nl) that sold it is very unresponsive

I also had a power button issue on mz Xperia Z1 compact. The power button worked intermittently, sometimes it took a lot of hard pressure to turn the phone on, sometimes it didn't work at all. Charging the phone would wake it from sleep. Resetting with the red button did not sove the problem. I suspected a mechanical issue witht the button and solved my problem. It is necessary to remove the back cover (it is held in place with adhesive tape around the perimeter). The procedure is explained with the phone laying face down with the back cover off (the openings for the camera and flash upwards).

When the power button is pressed it pushes on a contact that sits on a strip together with the contacts for the volume up and down buttons. This strip is located in the side of the phone and is kept in position with the plastic frame that goes around the phone. The contact strip is not visible uness the plastic frame is removed (which is not necessary to fix the issue).

Outside of the plastic frame is the metal frame the surrounds the phone. Inside of the plastic frame sits the battery. In my case the contact strip was too far from the power button and therefore the power would not go on. The solution was to place a thin plastic sheet (30 x 1 mm and approx 0.1 mm thick) between the battery and the plastic frame on the side where the power button is located. The thin sheet will put pressure on the plastic frame and push the contact strip closer to the power button so that the button can reach the contact. I suspect that there is variation in the width of the battery pack and in some cases the contact strip will come too far from the power button after some months of use.
