Xperia XZ3 Move apps to sd card

Hi,

So I just received my XZ3 today and installed also a 128gb sd card-mainly to store the apps on but....

There doesn't seem to be the option to transfer them like the old Xperias.

Can someone tell me if this is possible?

It seems crazy if you can't...why advance all the technology and not cover one of the basics?

Thanks in advance

J

Hi everyone,

In regards to your questions about why this is no longer available, please have a look at the text below.

Google stopped providing the possibility to move apps to an SD card to secure the security and the privacy in Android 6. This feature was removed from Android, but we continued to support it further for some time. However, we decided not to keep our solution to move apps to an SD card for users security and privacy.

I hope that answers your questions!

Hi @MrJerry

I'm afraid it isn't supported on Xperia devices nowadays.

Read this answer from @Jonas on the XA2 subforum

we need it ! Please add this function.

it's a shame in 2018 not to have this feature.

Wow I didn't even realsie this was the case.

Another gripe to add to my list of gripes with the XZ3 😕

Definitely would be good to see this functionality added. Does anyone know if Samsung or Google allow apps on the SD card?

Well pixels don't have SD card support at all, so.. no, they don't.

Samsung do with some apps.

Ah KK thanks for the info. Didn't realise that. Can't believe Google don't have expansion slots...what were they thinking!

Any idea if there is any plan to reinstate this feature? Would obviously be immensly useful.

I believe there might be a setting in developer options to force allow move app data to SD, but I haven't checked it out or used it tbh as no SD card can match UFS speeds or reliability.

On Pie?

Besides, why would you want to move apps to SD?

If you're able to fill up all the memory you surely have many, many apps installed.

Are you in need of all of them?

Keep your machine clean and lean. Restart it once a week. It will serve you with gratitude.

Don't forget to store all pictures and media on SD.

DON'T encrypt the SD card, you will be sorry in the unlikely case that you forgot your pattern or PIN to unlock your device.

Let Google or Microsoft ONEDRIVE make backups of your data in the background.
