Z2 Waterproof, NOT!! DO NOT BUY THE Z2!

So, I just got a Z2 two weeks ago. Used for a couple days and then took my daugther to a waterpark. Had the phone in my swinsuit pocket while running around after her. I made sure that both tabs were completly closed and at no point was the phone submerged under water, just splashed on.

On the way home, I noticed the camera and front proximity sensor fogged up and had a bit of water so immediately turned it off. Left it for a few hours and then turned it back on. First sign of a problem was I got a headphone connected message, even though no headphone was actually plugged in. I kept using it and as the day when along, the less responsive the phones screen got.

Hoping it was nothing, I turned it off for the night and left it. The next morning, I could clearly see water under the screen and it no longer registered any touch gustures. The phone turns on but stuck at the lock screen so I called up Sony support on July 29th. I told them what had happened and they had me check the water damage indicator located under the SIM card flap, to no surprise, it was red.

They promply give me a RMA number and tell me it will be checked for manufactures defect so I send it back the same day. A week goes by and no updates when I called but I get it back the next day (August 5th) without any documentation stating if they checked it or anything. The phone came back completly drained so I charged it for a couple hours, turn it back on and still the same issue. I called Sony and theyhave NO IDEA what the service department did or did not do.

Seriously?? I company as large as Sony has no idea what is going on and has to escalate my case to a manager to figure it out. I was told someone would call me within 48 hours but to no surprise, 3 days later and no call so I call them for an update so I have to continue to wait.

Some customers may get luckly and actually receive a Z2 that may be water resistant but based on multiple complaints here, YouTube and other websites, this is clearly a design flaw/quality control issue/manufactures defect.

SONY, I have purchased many of your products from TVs, Playstations, computers, cameras etc but will never buy one of your products again. You advertise this as a waterproof phone but for a lot of us it's NOT.

I hope everyone that has a similar experience gets a replacement phone but I doubt most of us will. I'm sure when they call me back they will say "sorry, you must have left the flaps open so we're not going to cover it" so say good bye to your hard earned money.

I hope Sony actually reads this and the many other threads about this and does something about it. If not, they will surely loose the very little smartphone marketshare they currently have.

Frustrated customer in Canada.

Hey You are Right about Sony's Customer Support!

I am from India.

I have my Z2 submitted to the service center as it had the Gap Issue!

They said they will get me a replacement of the device, they made a false report of the device's condition.

Now its been 1 month and 2 days and no status of when i am getting the device.

And they changed their commitment of the device being replaced to the device is gone for repair (i.e.) changing of the Display and Board Inside!

Now that not what i was given a commitment for and a heck of a wait of freaking **bleep** 1 month for the device.

This is something way tooo much!

**bleep** Peice of crap built quality for paying heck of money!

i wish i didnt shift from my iphone 5s to this horrible customer support for a good device!

I have also been given false commited dates (like 10 days then 15 days then 20 days, 22 days and its still changing) and not a proper treatment at the customer service.

Sony u better stop producing phones as u have a horrible customer support and horrible built quality!

Its time for them to pay for my loss!

Or ill make them suffer **bleep**!

If no same day solution is given its time to take the issue to a legal level and then these people will understand what it is to treat the customer improperly!

Dude take it easy. I know Sony customer service is not good, but its better than others.

But I must say I know how you feel. Indian Customer Service is the worst out of all Sony Service Centres.

I beg to differ. They can't be worse than Sony Thailand customer services. They are useless.

Also, putting a glass phone in the fridge or water too cool down is possibly the most stupid thing you could do. This could lead to the glass panels cracking

Well to no surprise, i'm on the phone again as I write this since no one has called me back even though the rep yesterday I would get a call back by today.

Their excuse is they are waiting for the service department to get back to them about what they did to the phone. ARE YOU ******* kidding me? I've had the phone back unrepaired for a week today and it takes this long to find out this information??

Let's see what the excuse for today is.

To be continued.....

Just got off the phone with Sony "support", i use that term very loosly because it is anything but.

The rep told me that their service department replied saying they don't have the phone there.....OMG, of course they don't have it there because they sent it back to me last Tuesday. HOW in the world can they not know this??

I can't believe they are so incompetent that they didn't even know this. So now the rep responded with my tracking number proving that they received it on July 30th.

And the waiting continues.....what a bunch of morons.

I wish my wallet was as thick as most of the Sony support staff.

They tested my device yesterday for waterproof and now they just send me a new phone. 10 days waiting for a result isn' t this bad. Living in germany.

KevinB,

I'm glad that Sony is sending you a new phone.

Unfortunately for me, they have still not called me back yet.

It's been almost two weeks now since I got me phone back unrepaired.

Maybe it's time to start up a class action lawsuit against Sony to see if that gets their attention.

Anyone else with me?

Hound88, you can no longer do that "class action lawsuit" thing. Read clause under dispute resolution.

Unless you have specifically written to Sony to reserve your rights within 30 days of purchase.
