Z2 not recognizing MDR10R headset correctly

Hello,

I am having an issue where my MDR10R is only being recognized as headphones and not as a headset. As a result the microphone and remote buttons do not work properly with my Z2. What is interesting is that the behavior is inconsistent, sometimes when I plug in the unit, smart connect recognizes it as a headset, but most (90%) of the time it is seeing it as headphone only.

I have used this unit on a Z1s, Z, and Tablet Z and the remote and mic work fine on all three devices. I believe there is a compatiblity issue here.

I have a friend that has the exact same MDR10R and those have the same problem with my Z2. So I am confident my headphones are not the problem.  I have also tested with different headsets with microphones and they work fine.

I am attaching screenshots illustrating what I see in the notification bar when I plug in the unit into the Z2. Most of the time I see headphones only (right screenshot) and the mic does not work at all.

You should contact your local Sony Xperia Care

What solutions do you think I will be offered ? Do you think it is something with my z2 ? I dont have another z2 to test with so I was thinking it was just a bug with z2 and certain headphones. Either way I am not too happy as i spent $150 on the headphones only a couple of months ago.

Sorry to hear that but I can't think of any other option

Sorry to hear that your headset doesn't work Slightly_frowning_Face

The Z2 is different from Z1, Z and Tablet Z as it has a 5-pole jack instead of a 4-pole so compatibility with 3:rd party accessories may not be the same as with those models. I do however recommend that you contact your local Sony Xperia support or a service location to have your phone checked so that there's nothing wrong with it or if you could contact a dealer and see if they can help you test your headset with another Z2.

Though its obviously not ideal, I can understand the compatiblity issue. What troubles me however is the fact that the behavior is inconsistent. I'm concerned there may be an issue with the headphone port itself. Perhaps a short of some kind. Of course, every other headset I try works fine including the noise cancelling pair that came in the box.

I am one of those unfortunate folks that is forced to import Xperia devices into the US as Sony likes to wait 6 months before releasing flagship phones here. So there is no local Xperia support for me.

What I am going to do however, is go to the local Sony store and test the headphones with a Z2 Tablet. That is about as close as I will get to doing any physical testing myself. Depending on the result I will need to decide if to get in touch with the dealer that sold me the phone.

Also, the MDR10R is not a third pary accessory. It is a Sony device. Perhaps you mean it is not a Sony mobile accessory?

I would suggest you should use a SBH accessories for wireless connection to hook up your MDR10R or just purchase as MDR10RBT
