Okay, has anyone else experienced this Xperia Z issue:- in that recently when inserting the charging lead into the mini USB socket (inadvertently the wrong way round, I admit - which often happens more at night in the dark) the phone is short circuited and shuts down. All attempts to switch the phone back on are to no avail. Inserting the USB charging lead, now the correct way round will not charge the phone either. In other words, the phone dies... but good news!! as it appears the phone is just in a comer. Following a period of convalescence, which can take up to several hours on occasions, the phone will reawaken by pressing the ON button, however, nothing until it decides it's ready.
The phone has just celebrated its 1st birthday and so I suspect the USB socket in the Xperia to be slightly worn; although looking at it and the USB plug they both appear to still be the correct shape. So to clarify, the USB plug, if attempted to be inserted into the phone the wrong way round will not go into the the phone’s socket all way way but just far enough to make contact with the wrong terminals resulting in a total power shutdown, Considering the watertight nature of Xperia’s design, does anyone know if the phone's USB socket can be repaired or replaced?
Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
A technician at a service center should be able perform this type of repair. I suggest that you contact your local support team for further information about nearest service center and/or how you should proceed in this case:

I confirm 180 degree inserting of micro usb to the point it produces a short circuit is possible and it wreck the phone complete. Without magic awake chance. So did my Z. Disapointing.
Same happened to my Z1 last night, apart from the phone bein blank dead without warning in the past weeks...Last night , there came a spark from the charger and the phone went dead . It's not turning on until now .
