I have a problem with the handset volume of my new Xperia go. Although I turn up the phone volume all way, my phone is still unusable even in moderately noisy environments. The other side can hear me well. Unexpectedly, un-checking(!) the Xloud option improves the sound somewhat, but the volume is still far too low. Noise cancellation only affects the microphone.
I have read the discussions about similar problems with other Xperia models. What are my options?
kind regards, Mike
No there is no noise cancelation for any loud speaker yet,but there is alot for the mic so u will not be able to listen to music in a noisy place, but for the handset speaker there is no noise canceling speaker which is a downside for this phone specially in the outdoors,so u will still hear but a low voice in the noisy places.
I mentioned noise cancellation only because this was incorrectly suggested as a solution in other threads.
I am not trying to listen to music, I am just trying to use my new Xperia go to make a normal phone call e.g. in a pedestrian zone with no particular traffic noise, just people talking normally in the street.
As I wrote, the other side can hear me well. My problem is that I cannot hear the other side on the ST27i even when I set its volume to top level. My primitive old phone is loud enough even with volume turned half way up.
Is this a problem with all ST27i phones, or do I need to have my phone checked for warranty? In the first case, I assume Sony are using standard components in their phones, so this could be corrected by firmware, I guess. It would be reassuring to get a comment by someone from Sony.
I have low handset voice in these places where there are people talking but I can hear the other side go check ur warranty and let us updated
Never ending story...
Chapter 2
So I took my phone to my dealer, who confirmed that the volume is in fact very low. Their demo ST27i had the same problem, so it's not my unit only. Since sending in the phone for warranty repair appears to make no sense in this case, the salesman recommended to call Sony support, which takes us to
Chapter 3
A very nice and competent lady answered my call to the Sony hotline. After verifying that my settings are correct and firmware version is current, she explained that many large retailer chains install their own firmware on phones they sell "unbranded". So customers believe they have the original firmware when they actually don't. She had had the same problem with her own phone which was easily solved by downloading and installing the original Sony firmware. So as a first step, I should do this to ensure we are not hunting a problem caused by hidden dealer add-ons or settings. If this does not help, I should send in the phone for warranty repair. She also informed me that Sony do not have their own repair facilities, so I'd have to take it to the dealer who would send it to whatever repair shop they happen to have. Well well well,,,
Chapter 4
So I backed up my phone using Sony Companion, removed the SD card, wiped my phone and reinstalled the original firmware, which effectively took me a couple of hours because the download got stuck in the first attempt, and reloading my contacts from the backup failed for some reason. Problem solved? Alas no - the whole effort had exactly zero effect on phone volume. At this point, I am glad that I did not brick my phone in the failed first update attempt.
Well, I do understand that support people need well-defined conditions before trying to diagnose a problem, so I'm still OK with what the support lady told me to do. What I find a bit disturbing, however, is when they recommend sending in a phone to a dealer's repair shop they evidently do not trust in the first place. I also do not particularly enjoy being bounced back and forth between dealer and manufacturer support.
I will not risk a repair attempt for what still most likely appears to be a firmware issue, but I hope that Sony is listening (even if they do not reply) and that their next firmware will resolve this problem with a phone that otherwise is turning out to be quite OK for my purposes.
