Software update failure

Just downloaded PC Companion so I could transfer numbers/pictures etc  to PC before taking Z1 Experia  in to O2 shop to be looked at as no e-mail in or out/internet painfully slow, phone keeps cutting out.. Decided to download latest software, in the hope it might help things,  but I think my intermittent  broadband signal decided not to work halfway through and the download failed. The phone will not now start - all the phone says is 'your software update failed, please make sure your phone is connected to your PC and try again' Because I cannot stert the phone up, the update on the PC will not initiate, as it requires the phone to be switched on - so I am in a repeating loop which is frustrating - does anyone have a fix for this or am I looking at a system restore and loss off all data on my phone?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Sorry to hear about your issue. First of all you can try to turn off the phone by press and hold the power button and volume up at the same time until device vibrates. Then try to start the phone as normal again.

If the phone still doesn't start you can try to repair the phone software using PC Companion:

In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Press the blue link that says "Repair phone/tablet". Do this without the phone connected and follow the guide in PC Companion to continue. Note that this will result in loss of user data.
