Lollipop update is a mixed bag

So I just got Lollipop on my Z1C and had alot of expectations. Sadly it has more downsides for me at the moment.

The interface is pretty inconsistent and the white color ... oh my god I need to wear sunglasses now when operating on my phone. The autobrightness that had same flukes in Kitkat seems to be here as well (it's increasing the brightness when the background has white or any light colors in it and not based on the ambient light). Basically I can't use the phone during nighttime if I want to read something without disabling autobrightness or else my eyes bleed. Speaking about inconsistencies what is this Sony on the right the "thing" there was just slapped on in the last seconds? I bet is isn't hard to use same design you used to clear the dropdown notifications, something similar to what I "painted" on the left.

Next up some other inconsistencies. Though our phone can do 4K video recording (yes it can, it's not a hardware limitation ... just Sony limitation and I don't need to prove this you already know) I was happy we at least got 1080p@60FPS on Lollipop. Or did we? The screen below is from a video shot at 1080p@60FPS, or well at least that's what the camera app thinks so.

Oh yes that is 30FPS and I'm not the only one reporting this issue, XDA threads started to notice this too.

Next up some benchmarkings that I thought would at least be as good as Kitkat if not better. Well I guess I was wrong again. I ran the test 3 times to be sure and got similar results, nothing over 40k and that runtime ... well something is wrong there for sure.

I'm not trying to make a hate thread here since I stuck with Sony since my first smartphone but some stuff here kind of demonstrates someone is not doing his job right and for sure it isn't me.

Since 5.0.2 will probably be the last update for Z1C I'm dissapointed a bit but I also have nothing to worry about in the same time since the lovely devs and mods on XDA will do better. I do feel sorry for the average users though that doesn't tinker with his phone. They will just have to manage with this.

@XperiaNow

Thank you for info. Unfortunately I did not save the 4.4.4 backup files like you did, and have started downloading them through the XperiFirm program on my PC, but it seems to save them in a format that is unfamiliar to me (many files, not one FTF file) - how do I flash it to my phone?

Also, two other points:

* Version 14.4.A.0.157 was the most recent version of Kitkat for the Z1 Compacr before Lollipop, right?

* What about all my apps and data? I'm guessing I will lose the lot?

Thank you so much. Really looking forward to going back to Kitkat and having my phone back.

@Alex_ncfc you need to decrypt the files and make a ftf file with flashtool from those files you have downloaded. Search on google "how to create ftf file using flashtool". Its easy. 🙂 you can take a backup of your apps and restore them afterwards.

Hi, after performing the upgrade to lollipop 5.0.2, I noticed issues on my Z1 Compact.

In detail,

- BATTERY DRAIN is more than previous kitkat and the top back overheating in few minutes of use.

- CAMERA viewfinder lags, there are slowdowns on auto scene selection in superior auto mode and focus errors.

- UNLOCK screen with facial recognition is disappeared.

Can you fix those problems and reintroduce facial recognition?

Thank you!

P.

Facial recognition is in smart lock. Settings> security > smart lock. P.s. Its not exactly same like it was in kitkat though.

Download via XperiFirm is ok.

As suggested here, Google for the instructions how to make a FTF file and read them carefully. Those 4 files should be decrypted, and joined in one FTF by Flashtool.

Be sure to backup your data before flashing or you'll loose them!

Personally, I don't backup apps, but some people do.

Don't flash your mobile phone unless you're sure what you're doing.

Hi, tonight I get my Z1Compact updated to 5.0.

After update I find out that my battery drain is unusual.

"Phone" consumes my battery out of 21%, rather than "Display" which is only 14%

I have check that a process called com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel are draining out battery very quickly.

What is this process called? Some says this is a formal phone process

but why it pours out my battery?

Is it usual? Or can be solved without rooting?

If I take my phone to find a support will them give me a chance to go back 4.4?

btw I would like to get a 4.4 appearance and 5.0 "move to SD card" feature in a mix:smileysmileywink:

And also one point to add that I CANNOT turn on STAMINA mode.

I don't want to root my phone and flash it to 4.4, so I have to post here to seek advice.

I have the same problem... I left the phone charged with 83% and no data connection before going to sleep. When I woke up, my battery was at 40% (that's a lot of battery drop for a standby mode).
