So this morning I had a message about a new update to my Z1, something like 14.x.A.x.x so I downloaded it via wifi and tried to install... could not install update.... so I tried again, same issue. This afternoon I swapped over to the PC and used PC Companion which downloaded the update, popped up with an error 100 and then the phone turned off. Now when I turn it on, I get "The software update failed. Make sure your phone is connected to the computer and try again." I've done this several times and I can't get the thing going again! Suggestions please.
Make sure you charge your device for about 1 hour at a wall socket.Turn it off and perform a repair:

As I said in my OP, I tried to use PC companion to update the firmware and that's when it all went wrong...
Ended up following this guide which sorted me out http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/42-sony-xperia-z1-c6903
So you have used flashtool?
Got it in one.
