problem with connecting via usb,& "file transfer" app is non responsive too,

Hi Guys,

I got my sony s tab for about a week, main problem i have is to connecting my tab to other devices via a usb, when i connect my tab to my vaio(which runs on ubuntu), non of these two recognize each other from any side, like there is no connection what so ever, and when i connect my tab to another windows laptop, win system recognize my tab,& i can brows my files & copy &... but same as last time , "file transfer" app on  my tab telling me :"no external storage found, insert an SD or connect usb storage", like i have a one way connection,

same story about external HDD, i get same message "... connect a usb storage" from File transfer app on my tab,

& i connect my android 2.2 phone to the same ubuntu laptop via usb very easily without any problem,

I have few days to bring my tab back & change it with another one if i know my tab is faulty,

i appreciate your advise,

Hi

Unless you are using an OTG (OnTheGo) camera adapter cable the tablet does nor recogise external drives.  With this cable, and Motorola's camera adapter cable works with the sony tablet, you will have problems getting it to recognise anything.

With the OTG cable, you can attach a usb flashdrive, no problem.  I have done this and it works without fail

As far as I am aware, and I have tried myself.  The Tablet will not recognise an external hard drive, even if it is powered.  I tried to hook up a 1tb seagate drive but it wasn't having it.

The micro USB to female USB cable that I refer to above can be found on ebay for c£10 and will also allow you to hook up some game controllers to play the PS1 games too on the tablet.

So it is not that your Tablet that is faulty it is just that the micro usb does not have enough power to power up an external hard drive.

Hope that helps and avoids you returning a tablet that is working to specification??

Hi,

Yes & thanks a lot, I know there isn't  anything wrong with my tab now & then I know I can take my time to find more about it, just the point that you mentioned that I can't  use an external HDD is a little disappointing ,, cheers.
