After 8 months of good use out of my MDR 1000x's I took them off this week and the right hand cup sheared off at the place where a lot of people have exeperienced cracks. This to me is not accidental damage and occured suring normal use.
Will Sony cover the this repair under Warranty? I purchased these from John Lewis with a 2 yr Warranty.

If you can provide proof of purchase then Sony will repair / exchange them for you.

Thanks Jumpsuit. I hope you are correct. From my experience so far with the retailer, and from reading many many reports of cracking on this model, Sony have issues covering this fault under their Warranty. I have tried calling the number you offered but they are not open on Saturday but I will try again in the week.
I'd be interested to hear from others who have had a complete snap like mine if they have managed to get a repair/repalcement under Warranty.

Try not to worry too much
The only member I recall that has had problems so far
was one that couldn't provide proof of purchase
as it was a cash purchase gift and they had no receipt.
