i had to format the laptop using my windows xp cd from my desktop pc, i dont have a recovery cd from sony.....where can i get/buy one?

that could be expensive, just out of interest why didnt you use the recovery partition

the partition got deleted, as far as i could see.

did you run the rocovery program in the start menu? if so what did the message say?

when i formatted the laptop, it didn't install any of the sony stuff, cos it was formatted with a normal windows xp cd..

To check this try tapping F10 at boot. If you are in luck it will take you to the HD recovery utility, otherwise conntact Vaio-Link as suggested.
