Xperia x10 "Unable to scan for networks"

Hi, I have an xperia x10 on at&t (still only with android 1.6) and it has been working fine until a couple of days ago.  My wi-fi has been working fine (except for the occasional "unable to start wifi") until one day it just stopped working.  I was connected to my home wifi network when all of a sudden it just disconnected.  I proceeded to go into my settings to turn it back on, however, when I checked the box, it turned on for about 5 seconds then turned off and said "unable to scan for networks."  I have tried everything I can to get it back to working.  I have tried:

-Taking out the battery, sim, and memory card for a few minutes.  replacing them all and restarting the phone.

-doing the above but while everything is out holding the back key for 30 seconds, then putting everything back in and holding the power button for 10 seconds.

-Plugging the phone into my computer

The only thing I haven't done is the factory reset.  I do NOT want to do this because I have heard that it only sometimes works and if it doesn't work, then I cant't get any of my apps or anything back on my phone and it will be completely useless to me.  I do not want to lose all the data on my phone because I have no internet currently, and therefore can not backup anything.

Please provide me with some info that can fix this!

this is very confusing you have suggested different ones.  Can you pick one that allows be to get rid of at&t and get me android 2.1?  if you pick one, can you personally gave me a step by step instruction, instead of just stuff copied off another website.  I need something like "go to folder __ , delete "xxxx" and replace with "xyxy" because it is confusing for me.

yeah no problem.

go to this

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201

Download Flasher:
Please download in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...47&postcount=1

and

Xperia X10a firmware

http://www.multiupload.com/ZGI6JWKIPG GENERIC

once you download both files, unzip the flasher and look for a folder that will say "firmware"

then in that folder unzip the xperia x10a firmware (along with loader.sin)(10 sin files together)

go to the main folder (the previous folder before you got inside firmware)

Open the .bat file

Once open select  1, 2 , 3 or 4 depending on your windows version).

It will ask you: Please plug Xperia in flash mode so,

Turn off your phone, press back and plug the usb cable! and Hit enter ( you should be quick, if you take to long it may not work, you have about 5 seconds. You know you are in flash mode because de GREEN LED on your X10 will stay ON)

Your device will stay with the screen off while flashing. The .bat will be running and running like mad for about 2-3 minutes. After that WAIT for windows to tell you that it has finished. Hit ENTER. The .bat WILL CLOSE.

On your device: Unplug your USB cable, wait for it to boot. I waited for like 2 minutes and nothing so I had to press POWER again.

A device and a camera with a BLUE arrow will appear on your device screen. WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. It will reboot, and take like 2 minutes on sony ericson screen.

It will boot up eventualy.

let me know if this is better/easier if not I can try to take pictures of the step by step
