Speech to text

Hi all

new mini x10 owner and loving it so far....

just a quick question: how does one activate the voice to text options...? all options are available to me except the "install software", i downloaded an app from android that apparently deals with this but cant find the app or activate speech to text.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanx

I think you may find that the speech thing is location sensitive and certain areas of the world dont have it.

I am in the UK and have a little microphone next to my google quick search box, I know Sushidushi who also posts on here alot is in Canada and doesn't.  If you have a look at the Google widget I think that will indicate whether your phone is set up for it.

I don't use it because the other thing to mention is that it can be pretty random in its translations!  That said it is often quite hilarious when I say something and it types something entirely different.  Not something that saves me time, my thumb on a old style numeric keypad is far quicker at texting!

hmm... I thought I saw something like that in one of my settings. But as you said it can be quite hilarious, and time consuming.

Being lazy here, any chance I can get a pointer to where it is?

Does your Google Quick Search widget look like this (with the standard android keyboard showing)

                 Google Quick Search                               HTC_IME keyboard

You need to have the little microphone on it next to the magnifying glass, I have done nothing on my phone to set this up. It was just there.

I have the HTC_IME keyboard and that also comes with a microphone, see the second button from left on bottom row, so you can speech to text when typing.

well that doesnt even make sense that it is region controlled, but yes you guys and gals were right its region specific. no mic no chat poo even tried handcent and others but no luck.

Why is it region controlled if its an internal app for your phone???

i can understand if the local telco doesnt support voice to phone features (amazingly SA does...lol) but it doesnt make sense really...

oh well still an awesome phone....

cheers for all the quick responses people.

you would have noticed by now, plenty of tech companies make things that they think is common sense, when that is clearly just them.
