HELP! NO HD channels on Sony SVR-HDT1000 Freeview+HD Digital Recorder!

Initial set up produced all Freeview HD & SD channels.  Then got message saying No signal.  Did a Rescan but only Freeview SD channels showing.  Lost all Freeview HD channels located between channels 50 and 60.

Have done - Update Scan - Rescan - Updated software from 4.15 to 4.21 - Manual Tuning for Channel 31 group for HD channels - still NO Freeview HD!!

Rang SONY helpline - based in Egypt.  Was given UK repairers' contact details.  Rang them up and was told to sent box in for repairs but that won't be covered by warranty???!

So opted for new replacement box - TWICE - but still same problems - NO HD channels!

The Freeview SD channels are perfect and very clear - almost HD quality.  So presumably not a signal / antenna problem.  Checked with Digitaluk which advised that there is no problem with transmission signal from Crystal Palace (only 5 miles away).

Even tried attenuator unit (as advised by digitaluk that signal may be too strong?).  Still NO HD channels!

Can someone PLEASE help!

Sharing the solution and discoveries just in case anyone has similar problems:

1.     The coaxial aerial cable (in) must not touch any other cables,

especially the aerial cable out to TV or DVD or Blu-Ray Player or no signal results.

Try relocating the box if not possible to avoid cables making contact.

2.     If the Digital TV/Freeview signal is weak, there is just no picture on screen.

3.     With a strong Digital TV/Freeview signal, the picture quality may be affected.

The picture may become pixelated or there is lots of digital noise.

That's where an attenuator comes into play.

A variable attenuator up to 20 dB (only £7.99 or less) is possibly better.

Fixed/up to 8 dB or 10 dB attenuators are cheaper.

TIP - HOW TO GET BBC iPlayer on SVR-HDT1000 (or 500)

Connect an ethernet WiFi adapter to the SVR-HDT1000 (or 500) and get BBC iPlayer!

Just press the RED Button on any BBC SD (not HD) channels to access!

I used NETGEAR Universal WiFI Internet Adapter (about £34 from Amazon instead of RRP £60).

Configure the ethernet WiFi adapter then plug it into the ethernet port at the back of the box.

Attach the supplied USB cable to the USB port below for power (alternatively use the supplied power plug).

Once connected wirelessly, BBC iplayer even offers a choice of viewing at "Higher Quality' picture!

Hope this info helps someone!
