Good battery will not turn on laptop but runs laptop once powered on with, AC adapter.

Laptop will only start with AC adapter and never with the battery. The battery is new and 100%. Once powered 'On' with the AC adapter I can remove the adapter and it stay on! Is this a problem with the boards battery port?

Sorry to ask but If its a replacement battery was it purchased from a reputable source?

(e.g. a high street / online chain etc. and not Ebay)
