RX100M2 Wifi inadequate so needs time lapse

The RX100M2 is, as is widely acknowledged, just the best compact camera, able to produce the highest quality images and movies.  The one improvement which interested us, over the RX100,  was the Wifi feature and its abiltiy to remotely control shooting and zoom, this would be very beneficial to our work.  The reality in testing is that this only reaches up to 30feet and we struggled to get this even in a clear line-of- sight when linked with a good 3G signal from various smart phones. We need to be able to have the camera fire from at least 100 yards away with no cables or remote shutter control devices attached.  Hours spent researching has given no solution to improving the wifi range or finding a way to remotely shoot from a good distance.  So we have been looking to see if there is a time lapse ability function - set the shutter to fire at a given interval for a period of time ie every 5 secs for 30minutes.  This would require just a firmware update and is available on other compact cameras costing less.

This is a plea to Sony - please provide a time lapse firmware update as I want to keep the camera but will have to return it without this addition.  Thanks for any response or information
