HX9-V LCD Screen

I'm thinking of buying a HX9v and was in Jessops last week comparing that camera to the Panasonic TZ20. I noticed that on the Sony, even though the LCD screen is 3", the image on the screen didn't fill the whole screen and there was a border all around. (unlike the Panasonic). The assistant said that this was correct and couldn't be altered. Is this the case?

Thank you,

Terry

This is because the glass screen is larger (nearly 3.5" across) than the actual image.

You will find that actual photos are 3" across.

Wide screen video uses the entire width of the screen and has a band top and bottom.

Don't worry, you are not being shortchanged!!

Thanks for that. I'll go back to the shop and have another look.

In 4:3 format the diagonal is exactly 3 inch (as specified), although the LCD glass is somewhat larger and leaves some borders around the image. In 16:9 mode the top/bottom borders are wider. See attached images.
