Hello, can anybody tell me what cable I need to transfer video from a sony handycam model DCR HC24E to a macbook pro please

You need an iLink (Firewire) cable to import video into iMovie.

Your Macbook Pro probably has a Firewire 800 port and your camera a Firewire 400 port so you probably need a cable like this: -
