Hi all, hope someone can help with this it's driving me potty. I have the above tv new last week. I've registered 4 different HDD's with it for recording (only one at any time also de regitering so that only one at a time is registered) All were accepted as compatible by the tv. I've plugged them into the blue USB 3 socket (the inside one as instructed by the manual) I've registered my google account and signed up for youview but on the epg I am getting no option to record. I select the programme I want and all it offers is reminder (a bell appears on that programme in the epg) I understand that I can only record on the channel I am watching but that didn't bother me because I only really set to record when I'm out. What am I doing wrong ? I know this must be something I'm missing because it's not failed recordings, I just don't get offered the option to record when I select a programme as per the manual instructions. Is there something I haven't accepted or something. It's a good tv (not great) but I specifically bought it for the record option which other companies (Samsung) don't offer at this sort of price point.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong ?
Solved! Go to Solution.
you have to come out of YouView and switch to Sonys own TV guide.
I have a different TV to yours so these instructions may not be exactly what you see but should be similar.
Click the Settings button your remote control.
From the onscreen menu select Settings.
Select Channel & Broadcast, scroll down to TV button shortcut.
Click right and select Digital.on the next screen 'Se;lect your default TV app for Digital' select TV.
(Live TV & Catchup is YouView)
Come to of Settings.
Press the TV button on your remote.
Press the guide button on the remote.
The TV guide you should now see is Sonys TV guide.
Select a programme you would like to record, highlight it press the OK/ confirm button on your remote
the next screen will show you details of the programme and the option to Timer Rec, click on that to set up the recording.

Great, thanks. You've restored my sanity. Not a mention of this in the manual (that I saw) I had assumed that you had to use youview (and I really didn't want to give up my info yet again to another organisation) Still I assume I can sign out of you view now.
Thanks for the assist. It's appreciated.

Hi @got2avekayanow There is no need to sign out of Live TV & Catch Up, just change the default TV App to (Sony) TV. Shown above.
It's not about "need" it's about desire. I only signed in to these things because I thought I had to for recording. Now I know I don't need to be signed in to them I choose not to.

having now saved (I hope) to an external HDD how does one play the saved material on the TV. I’m sure it is very simple but not for me.

Press the Input button on your remote control.
At the bottom of the screen you should see the various inputs you can select on your TV.
If the HDD is connected and powered up scroll right to Recording Device and press OK.
The Timer list should be displayed and you can select your recordings.
You may also see Timer List displayed in the input list you can also use that to see your recordings.
If you do not see Recording Device or Timer List displayed in your inputs list scroll all the way to the right to Edit, press OK.
Here you will see all the available inputs your TV can display. You can activate them by clicking on the OK button.
For Recording Device you can have it show permanently in the list or select Auto where it will only show if the HDD
is connected and powered on.
If the TV is set to Digital TV and not YouView press the EPG button on the remote control.
Scroll up all the channels to Channel 001 which is probably BBC1.
Above that you will see a row of options beginning with Settings/ Timer list, head for there.
Click one up and then one left. Press OK. Select Timer List.
Click left twice to highlight Timer list/ Timer settings.
Click All to see all recordings on your HDD.
Underneath that will see Unwatched and categories of programmes such as Drama, Entertainment etc.
Click right to select the programme for viewing, press OK to start viewing.
Another way to display the EPG is to click on TV on the remote control.
TV Menu should be displayed on screen.
Click down twice and the EPG will be displayed.
At the very top you should see Settings/ Timer list.
From Timer list you can do as above to access your recordings.
The above information is for my TV which is different to yours but if the procedure on your TV
is not exactly the same I hope it is broadly similar that you can find a way to access your recordings.
If your TV is the same model as the original title suggests (KD-43X75WL) you can access the online manual by clicking here,
