Xperia Companion - No Restore or Transfer and Netflix install issue

Good Evening, I am having awful trouble restoring from a google cloud backup or using Xperia Companion to transfer from my Xperia XZ Premium. It just says Not Compatable with this Device ( Xperia 1 ) when i plug it in on the companion app or no restore option from google cloud backup in settings.
I used the latest download from the sony website and the one on phone (X1)
Also no restore function in my google drive back up either. Just the restore on first boot of phone. Which is not a full restore. just call logs and app list and account info

Also Netflix refuses to install as well. Goes through the motions of install then fails.
I think i may have a broken phone ? Or is it me!

For Netflix, can you check the post I made here:

Please feedback if it worked, thanks.

The companion issue I'll look at when home.

Hi @DragonReborn;

To use the restore function in Xperia Companion you normally have to do it using the same phone model in which you made the backup.

To transfer data from your XZ Premium to the new Xperia 1 you can try using Xperia Transfer.

Thanks for the reply. It just says not supported by this device in the trasnsfer mobile app as well.

@DragonReborn ;

Well I don't have the Xperia 1 so I can not test it but I find a little odd that if the Xperia Transfer comes pre installed in the device (can you access it in Settings>System >advanced like in the XZ Premium?) it saying not supported.

I did find it anoying that i couldn't transfer my messages from my old XZ to my new Xperia 1, but for all the other apps I do like to install fresh and choose those apps that I do still use instead of putting everything back.

I do also get the same error with installing Netflix - this is something I use a lot and I know that Netflix made a change to the app to support the ultra-wide display.  Perhaps there is a different version of the Netflix app that we need to install?  As Sony did make an effort to push the wide screen and informing us of the benefits and support from Netflix, this might have been an app that was pre-installed - but it wasn't.

If somebody from Sony could let us know how to fix the Netflix app issue, please let us know.

I used an app called SMS Backup & Restorehttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&gl=GB

It worked a treat. It backed up over 5000 SMS into google drive and then restored them back to my new X1

So glad!

Hope this helps

Do what I did. On your XZ PREMIUM ( Which I also own and transferred from) Use Google assistant.

When you boot up your XPERIA 1 and connect to the WIFI you should be given an alternative way to transfer your files and apps across.

Everything, including the wallpaper of my kids got cloned across to my XPERIA 1

And BTW, NETFLIX install issue is affecting everyone.

I changed my first XPERIA 1 which I received on Thursday for a replacement, just to have the same issue with the new delivery.

Hi @DragonReborn

As @ThaReality mentioned, the easiest way to transfer data from your old phone to your Xperia 1 is to use the backup service made by Google. This way you will be able to transfer mail, calendar, contacts, applications, setting, call history as well as images, videos, music and other document files.

On your XZ Premium, find and tap Settings > System > Backup > Enable "Back up to Google Drive" followed by tapping "Back up now". When this is done you can begin to set up your Xperia 1. When prompted in the setup guide to Copy apps & data, tap NEXT followe by either A backup from an Android phone or A backup from the cloud. Both options allow you to restore data from Google Drive.

Keep in mind that if you have already set up your Xperia 1, you will need to reset your phone in order to get access to the setup guide.

I hope this helped! let me know if you have further questions!
