Xperiaa Z3 Compact reboots when receiving call.

My 2 months od Z3 Compact reboots  when receiving inncoming calls. This mostly happens if any other apps are open or in use, not when phone is just in 'idle'. Have tried to switch between WCDMA, GSM only, WCDMA (peferred) GSM and LTE (preferred)WCDMA/GSM - no change.

Have run 'repair phone' through support' new install(?) - no change.

Have tried to reset to factory - no change.

Whenever this happens the incoming call is not registered as 'missed call' in the call log.

Tempted to throw it away!!!

The phone has been working without any problem since I got it back. Another thing I have noticed: the phone runs quite a bit 'cooler'. Before I sent it in, could hardly touch the back after 10-15 minutes of active use on the net or 'candy crushing'. Excactly what caused what to break I do not know. Was it overheating that made the motherboard fail or the motherboard causing the heat?

What if you get a brand new SIM card?

New SIM when I got the phone. This problem started after latest Lollipop up-grade as far as I have noticed. The caller ID and number comes up when the phone is ringing, which gives it gets registerd by the phone at the moment, but not logged. Phone does not reboot if I just let it keep ringing, only when I answer. To me it may look like a power drop that happens when answering making the phone reboot?

@Haffiman

That's quite odd, you might want to get your phone checked at your local Xperia Care

http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/

does it happen while on safe mode?

Hi Haffiman,

Just to let you know - you are not the only one with this problem.

I've searched the web, and I'm glad that I found you with exactly the same problem.

Please keep me updated, if you find a solution, and I will do the same to you..

Got a quick reply from support:
'

Dear Morten,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

In regards to your query, can we check with you have you tried to use other SIM card and put it in your phone and try? We can suggest you to try remove SD card  and try it again. It could be either SIM card or SD card is having the issue.
We would also suggest that you try to perform a repair of the software using PC Companion. If the issue is related to a problem with your software this will be repaired and your handset will work as intended. To do this, you will need to install PC Companion from the Sony Xperia website. Please follow the steps below to do this:

...............................................................

My reply:

Thank you for the reply.
1.  Phone has been tried 'repaired' using PC companion on my desktop running Win 10 - but no change.
2. My SD card is empty, however removing and installing gives no change.
3. Do not have access to another SIM card and my provider did not want to give me another one (Celcom Malaysia), but this is what happened.
 a. Took it out and re-installed it - no change.
 b. Took it out, carefully cleaned the contact surface and re-installed it - so far it has worked 5 times without problem. This indicates to me that it might be a 'power surge' problem causing contact problems between phone and SIM card. An internal voltage drop when receiving a call and at the same time having open apps running (Candy Crush, browser etc) combined with perhaps a not 100% clean contact between phone and SIM card, the phone looses contact with SIM card for a milli second and this is what may happen:
(From the manual)

To insert the nano SIM card

If you insert the nano SIM card while the device is powered on, the device restarts automatically.
This might at the end indicate that the connection between phone and SIM card needs 'modification' in order to secure a proper contact over time!
Please keep this ticket number open and I'll return if problem re-occurs.

Regards

Morten

I live in the tropics, (Malaysia), at the moment in the middle of a rainy season and get my daily showers with the phone in the pocket. Howere that is the main reason I bought a waterproof phone! It replaced a Xperia Active that I have had for several years without any similar problems.

@mortenduen

Perhaps getting a brand new SIM card might solve the issue, if it doesn't then you need to take it to your local Xperia Care as it could be a hardware issue.

The design for installing the SIM card gives quite a loose fit and it may all come down to tollerances and thickness of the SIM card itself. I'll follow up and see what happens.
