Has anyone else had a problem with the Sony Repair Centre?
My phone is less than 3 years old and suffered scratch damage to the back.
On my description of the fault they were quite happy to generate a repair facility, had it for 8 days, wiped all the info on it and returned it untouched.
When I called to complain I was told it was uneconomical to repair!!
How can this be when all it needs is a replacement back, which I believe are glued on?
I wonder if the reason is that since this phone has reached it's end of life, they no longer have spare parts.
The alternative is to buy the part online > make sure to buy the double sided tape > and check ifixit or youtube videos.
Hi @Kipper31, sorry to hear about this.
As this is an Global user based forum and since warranty terms, local service routines and so forth varies between markets, I'd recommend that you get in touch with your Local support team as they are the experts on your market and will be able to provide a much more detailed answer than we can here at our forum.
@uliwooly, The Xperia Z1 Compact has not reached it's end of support, so spare parts should still be available at the service centres. It may be the case that the repair would include more than just the back cover and that is why it would be too expensive to repair the device, for example if there is water damage.
Keep us posted!
The phone has been nowhere near water and is in excellent condition, apart from the back.
As the fault was fully described before they raised a repair, I feel badly let down
Surely not end of life, it's only 3 years old
After speaking to a Sony manager I am told that the phone no longer is supported them, unbelievable!!
Hi again @Kipper31 and thank you for this information.
The Xperia Z1 Compact was released in January of 2014, so it's a bit older than 4 years.
According to the information I have available, the Xperia Z1 Compact has not reached it's end of support, could you please check with them again? Do note that service routines vary between regions so there may be a difference between the markets.
Keep us posted!
Hi Jonas,
I'd love to know where you got that info, I spoke to a manager in Sony support (allegedly!) and he assured me that support was no longer available. I found it hard to believe as my phone is only 3 years old. My next phone will probably not be a Sony, and I have been a big fan of the make since my teens and I'm now 63.
Hi again @Kipper31, sorry for my late reply. I have been out of office for a few days.
I'll see if I can get some more information for you as the information I have available does not say that Xperia Z1 Compact is a end of support device.
I'll keep you posted and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
