Xperia XZ repeated updates

I just got my Xperia XZ yesterday and since then I've updated it about four or five times due to the persistent notifications to update. I've tried force stopping the updates but they end up reappearing eventually. What should I do?

Hi @feelgayinc, welcome to our forum and congratulations on your new phone! Slightly_smiling_Face

This is a normal behaviour since the phone has received updates along the way and the phone can only install one update at the time. I would recommend that you continue to install all the system updates that the phone is sending a notification about until you have the latest software installed in your phone.

Before you apply a new update you can always go to Settings > About phone > Version and type this number down > do an update and go back and check if the number has been changed, if it has, you have installed a new software update.

I hope that explains why you receive a notification about updating your phone over and over! Slightly_smiling_Face

I checked the number after I updated and it hasn't changed at all. Is it possibly a minor update or is the phone failing to update?

Update.... there is nothing else you can do. If an update keeps asking for an update after instaling take notice to the message in youre screen.

It should not ask for the same update after instaling.

Hi again @feelgayinc,

If you go to Settings > About phone > Software update. Does it say that your device is up to date, but you still have a notification that you have an available update to do in the notification bar of your phone?

If you do, go to Settings > Apps > three dots in the top right corner > Show system > Software update > Storage > Clear data > OK. Restart your phone and see if you get the same notification again.

You can also if you have a computer available download and install Xperia Companion and see if there is an update available in this program. Xperia Companion is available for both Windows and MacOS and you can just press on either of the blue links depending on which OS your computer is running.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi @Kelsy, sorry for the late reply.

If you have more than one update to do, you will get a notification that you have a new update to download and install after you have restarted your device to apply the previous update.

Before you install a new update, please check which number you can see under Settings > About phone > Version. If this number changes after applying a new update, you have installed a new version of the software.

Let me know how it goes! Slightly_smiling_Face

This is a major, major flaw with Xperia. Apple phones jump you straight into the latest version.

Xperia makes you update to every... Single... Update.... One at a time.

I don't know any professionals or parents who have time for this, and I know many elderly who would be completely confused by this.

It's a nightmare when activating am Xperia for the first time if it's more than one year old.

If you want to stop the notifications for updates this can be done by following the steps in the link below. Once you restart your phone though they will appear again unless you repeat the steps. As mentioned though its probably best to just update the phone. Might be best running a factory reset once you complete all the updates just make sure you back up your data Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi @UglyD,

I have requested some more information regarding this and I will get back to you as soon as I have received it! Slightly_smiling_Face

You can however with the help of a computer perform a software repair using Xperia Companion and the latest available software will be installed. Do note that all data stored on the internal storage will be removed, however if the device has not been activated before there shouldn't be any important data being lost in the process.

I hope that helps for now and I will get back to you when I have received the other information.
