Quick Charge Not Working

Quick Charge Not Working

I have an LG, Samsung and a third-party Quick Charge 3.0 compatible charger. All chargers work on all 3 other devices (Samsung charger can quick charge LG, etc) - all except for my Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact. Both their service center and customer support claim that I need to have a Sony Quick Charger, specifically the UCH12, for it to fast charge.

I don't see any reason why this should be the case. Sony uses the same Qualcomm chipsets as other brands, so there seems to be no reason that other QC 3.0 compatible chargers don't work with the Sony phone, unless Sony deliberately locks out other brand chargers. Has anyone experienced the same issue or is it just me?

i do still believe that the Voltage reading is right with a bit margin of error, it does change a bit from time to time although move in the region of +/-4V ..

on another case, with uch12 someone at telegram group claimed that it charged his wileyfox swift with 3A, and fully charged in 40 mins. Apparently it has the same battery size with XZ1 compact 2700mAh. Thus, I believe that there is a weird limitation in XZ1 compact, and the voltage being around 5V region to get 2A as per reading in app. I believe the charger supplies the same voltage.

Also i tried charging my phone with aukey charger PA-Y2 using its QC 3.0 port with following spec

  • USB-C Output (Quick Charge 3.0): 3.6V-6.5V 3A | 6.5V-9V 2A | 9V-12V 1.5A

The Ampere reading is 1.5A. Seeing the spec, i should be getting 13-18W, which is comparable with UCH12. However, the phone was fully charged in 2+ hours, which is way worse than UCH12 performance. Thus, i believe that the voltage is probably kept constant.

Of course, detail test and monitoring is required to pinpoint the issue. Please let me know about your result with the 3 chargers. Especially, these 2 comparison  (an Anker multicharger rated @ 5V/2400mA vs an LG QC 3.0 charger rated @ 9V/1800mA). since these 2  has very different output..

I have read a great deal about the quick charge for X series phones. As I live in Canada, I had to purchase my XZs from a different market as Sony still offers little here. It works great, but my factory charger with the adapter (to work in 2-prong north america) would take about between 2-1/2 to 3 hours to charge from %15. I recently was able to get a UCH12 adapter with 3.0 USB cable. Ordered 2 sets. Now for some reason it takes almost 6 hours to charge. I tried again with factory charger, and it now is almost 6 hours to charge. I checked with Ampere, and am lucky to get a charge rate of 100-120 ma. However, when I plug into my car, I can charge at about 2100ma. It is a no name quick charger, but can get from. %15 to %90 in about 35 or so mins. How can a person check to see when quick charge is working? I would have intially said my Qnovo was buggered in my phone, but still quick charges in my vehicle, with factory cable. But no matter what I have tried, including resetting my phone and performing a repair with Sony Companion, phone will only quick charge in my vehicle. Sony support hasn't been able to guide me anyplace helpful yet. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The same with my new XZ1, in the box I've found the poor UCH20 which is limited to 5V-1500mA and its not even made from Sony but from a manufacturer named SALCOMP.I've tried a lot of other QC 3.0 certified chargers but no luck so far!

Juice74 Might want to try switching your cable. Seems like the connection between the charger and your phone is a bit loose. Since it can charge fine somewhere, the issue isn't with your phone.

Anyway sorry for the long delay. I've tested with the Eversame USB Digital Power Meter and verified that when plugged in with a quick charger, the voltage does indeed increase, i.e quick charge does work on the Sony Xperia XZ1 compact. It appears that Android doesn't give an accurate voltage reading (and there's usually no reason to, given that the battery normally drains at the same voltage). Therefore ampere, accubattery or any other app will not be able to give an accurate voltage reading.

I just wish Sony would actually give an indication when quick charge is actually active.

Isn't the cable, it just works sometimes, but not all the time. Last system update fixed the issue, works fine now. Something I  the software not quite right II guess.
