Camera extremely grainy

Camera is extremely grainy. The photo is set to 23mp 4:3 . Even at 23 mp the photos look as if they are 5mp. Picture quality is quite bad.

Yes it has a really good front facing camera in my opinion is the best of all smartphones. But still the rear camera is superior.

Hope Sony keeps improving their software and a better hardware too, I've seen a lot of good reviews about the new motion eye sensor.

Regards.

What I observed after the Nougat update is, Front facing camera only detects faces and the user cannot select a particular area on the screen to focus. Any Idea how we can change that?

Wow. It seems like Sony have sent their "pros" to write in this thread. To all the "how good this camera is" I can say that:

1. Watercolor and oversharpening IS a big problem.
2. Macro is a disaster.
3. Having wide angle is senseless when edges get as blur as they come.
I don't want to comment my photos with something like "don't open it on PC and don't zoom"...

I really can't take seriously all kinds of "tips" like disable this and that, and also that... and shoot in 8 mp. And, yes... "use manual mode"! Great! Are you kidding? It means that I have to disable almost all features Sony presented so proudly! And what does it leave me with? Poor 8 mp and the necessity to study manual mode tutorials? This was not why I chose XZ. I wish I knew it before I bought it. Now I feel deeply deceived. Probably all these tips are useful, but they are nothing but a sad attempt to put up with what we have and with something that should cost half-price.

I have emailed Sony abiut this and asked to look at this thread. It seems that they don't care.

Honestly I'm disappointed. This is the last time I buy Sony phone.

End of story

I still can´t belive that Sony hasn´t fixed the laserfocus on the XZ series...

It does absolutley nothing in any light conditions, i´m dissapointed!

This is how a laserfocus is supposed to work, watch the whole video. The phone in use is a Moto G4 plus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d4nfvHvCO0

It shows 2 stages, one inactive when camera is not in use and other when camera is active.

Now we want to ask Sony representative for a comment.

We want to know when it will be fixed in Xperia XZ.

Hi to all!

Sony will never answer us about these "issues" of XZ and X Compact camera.

But, as I talked before, the problem is not the lens but the BIONZ software. To demonstrate this, take a look to the XA1 review on GSMArena, section camera. It uses the same IMX300 of Z5 and all X series but the results are far better in terms of grainy, watercolor effect and lowlight. How is it possibile is the sensor is totally the same? Simply, XA1 doesn't use the same BIONZ software or uses a version far better (hoping that will be arrives also on our devices).

However is interesting to notice that, in low light, XA1 shoots at very high ISO but with very small shutter speed giving very good results.

Alternatively, in Manual Mode, try to use the lower possible shutter speed, as 1s (automatically the software set the lower ISO possible). On my X Compact with low light I have very good results in terms of low grainy shoots with this setting.

However, I wait and hope for a less aggressive BIONZ's elaboration to have less grainy, less artifact and less watercolor effect.

Yeah, i saw that review aswell and was quite supprised. And i´m quite mad actually, this shouldn´t be possible but the BIONZ algorithm is the culprit.

How can they mess this up?

Remove the BIONZ algorithm!!!!

From GSMArena.com

And to top it off, there's the 23MP camera Sony used to fit in a number of flagship devices (the entire Z5 family and then a few of the new upper-end X-series), yet never quite managed to extract flagship-grade image quality out of it. Well, we'd say this is the closest it's gotten to that mark - we'd pick the XA1's images over the XZ's in a heartbeat, despite the fact that they come from the same sensor.

The 23MP primary camera shows improved processing and better noise properties compared to its Xperia XZ days. The corner softness is almost gone too. Colors are accurate and the dynamic range is adequately wide. There's resolved detail to spare and overall, we were pleased with the results, especially at the phone's price point.

I allready made of my mind to buy this year the beast of mi6 835 snapdragon 6gb ram 128gb. Full metal frame and glas (only coin unless get ceramic version),Waterproof, stereo speakers, bigger battery and most important They improve camera software in any update. Compared to this even the xz premium sound like a joke to me for that money. My sonyfan days are over
