So while on holiday in Spain last week I took my Xperia Z in the swimming pool to take a picture. As it's waterproof and I already had it in the shower and cleaned it several times with clean water from the tap I thought it would just be fine. So I took the pictures, all was fine. Then I thought, this phone is waterproof to 1m depth, I'll just make a short instagram video where I record from just below the water surface. I went out of the pool and put my phone on a table.
When I returend to check my sms messages the phone wouldn't unlock. There was also condensation in the lens of the camera.
I opened all the flaps and let it rest for two days in the hope that any water that got inside would dry out but it was already too late. I can charge the phone, the indicator led comes on. I can put the phone on (it vibrates) but the screen doesn't come on.
I checked all the paper indicators inside the covering flaps for the usb connection etc, they were all intact and white, none were discolored. The phone didn't go deeper than arm lenght, which is not 1 meter. And total time under water was maybe 20 seconds or 30 seconds.
I am hundred percent sure this is not my fault, the indicators are still white and the phone didn't go too deep, nor did it go too long in the water.
I returned the phone to the store where I bought it and they sent it to Sony. They said it would probably be two weeks till they know if Sony will fix it or not.
What are the chances of my phone being fixed?? I followed all Sony's precautions, but how on earth can I prove this?
Request a vacuum test, that will prove if it was a factory defect either with the flaps or another part of the device or that you didn't firmly closed the flaps
It can't be anything with the flaps as they were firmly closed and the indicator strips inside all of the flaps are still white. I guess the water must have entered the phone somewhere around the camera.
If my phone isn't being repaired then I'm thinking about getting the Z2 after the Z3 comes out, but as I've seen lots of people with water damage problems due to build faults I would like to have it waterproof tested by sony so that I'm sure the phone performs like it should. My Z should've been waterproof to 1m depth for 30min, it wasn't... But is this testing possible and if so where?
there is one clause which is not covered usually for warranty and insurance etc..
"act of god"
and water is created by god
xperia Z flaps are so delicate to play in water especially the charging port .. used for a while
