OK Let me start by saying I'm a big SE fan and have been buying SE phones for the last 6 years (and an Ericsson back in 1998).
I love the X10 but unlike the P1i which was perfect for its time, there are a few problems I can't seem to fix.
1. Battery usage - no matter what I do I can't get it to last longer than a day. I've followed all the tips and tricks, turned off WiFi, etc. I use advanced task killer to kill unwanted tasks but after a few minutes, 'random' apps start loading by themselves, such as Maps, Timescape and other internet apps, which I'm sure are eating up battery. But still, after the awesome battery life on the P1i, I'm very disappointed by this phone's battery.
2. Lack of java support? I can't load any of my .JAR midlets? This is unbelievable... I have a large library and although Android Market is growing, it would be nice to load java apps? From a google operating system, this is strange.
3. Buttons too small on keyboard... I keep making mistakes, can't someone recommend a better one to load?
4. Why choose an older Android version? Now SE has announced 2.1 - why not go to 2.2? I'm sure SE noticed thousands of screaming clients?
5. How do I get divx support?
OK Now what I like:
1. Brilliant screen resolution and clarity
2. Fast apps and games!
3. Nicely thought out messaging and phonebook software - after all this is a phone!
4. Internet just works - plug and play - and WiFi works nicely but eats battery
5. Android market - just brilliant and I hope it overtakes iPhone!
6. Great video and music playback
7. Decent camera but like most other digital cameras, difficult to take sharp night pictures.
8. Phone looks sexy!
9. Nice pouch included
10. Nice work SE but if SE continues to ignore gsmarena and what the people there are clamouring for, such as the features on the Motorola Droid, then I will be forced to convert due to undesirable issues with new SE phones. Don't step backwards from perfection (P1i).
regards

The battery issue is on older firmware and should be better if you update via Sony Ericsson Update Service.
My phone's Software Update says that it has the latest software, and the PC companion says that it's up to date.
Is it version R1FA016?
1. At the moment u cannot do anything about the poor battery life. All the tricks and tweaks around in the internet will give you 1 or 2 more hours battery time, but you will never get near 200 hours of standby (SE promised 400 hours, I think they turned of the X10 for 400 hours and turned it on again...)
2. I think the lack of java support is because of android. Android is Java but it doesn't suport Java...
3. Try the HTC Keyboard from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5475283 it's the first thing I installed on my X10 because the standard keyboard really really sucks
4. SE-Mode on: To give you the best user experience available
SE-Mode off: It takes some time to fix all the exploits in Android 1.6 that could make ROOT available on the X10. It's an honor to use our phones so don't think you can use them as you want! WE SELL THE PHONES WE MAKE THE RULES. For the same reason it takes us so long to release 2.1!
5. DivX is not possible at the moment, and SE didn't say they will enable it. But that is okay SE isn't saying anything. They keep continuing their strategy in ignoring users and keep their update policy as secret as the Manhattan Project. Perhaps they are so paranoid that some other company will steal their "great" ideas...

So what does this mean, the phone updater is wrong?
Thank you, some of that was what I suspected. I would love to hear from the Answers Team...
Ditto the poor battery life. I based my purchase on the sales persons statement (and SE's) that battery life was much better than the i-phone. I feel like this is a complete gross false statement that goes against all reasonable trading standards laws.
However, and this is perhaps worth noting - O2 have had problems in the past couple of days with the 3G network. The lack of the X10 trying to connect to this network has extended the battery life to well over 48 hours and I've still 60+% left. Is this the root cause of the battery problems?
