Undo silent mode on xperia z2

This is weird but my Xperia Z2 has automatically gone on silent mode and I'm unable to change the settings from the volume keys nor from the main settings page. I've been using this phone for about 6months now and this is the first time I'm facing such a problem.
Please help!

what happen when you press the volume key > tap on the icon on the right side (3 horizonal lines)

You should be able to change sound volume if you go to settings-sound and notifications.

@uliwooly When I press the volume keys, it shows me the volume control bar but as soon as I drag it to a higher sound level, it jumps back to level zero...
It's almost as if it's got an elastic band or something lol

perhaps its a hardware isssue with the volume keys but boot on >>> safe mode

and report back

Can you perhaps try to perform a software repair using PC Companion if safe mode fails?
