My Screen Broke,
I was running Android Kitkat as I was happy with it (and my Son also with the same phone had battery issues with Lollipop).
I backed up my phone with PC Companion.
I did a factory reset and sent my phone into SONY for repair.
They repaired my screen
but updated my phone to Lollipop
without asking.
I restored my phone from the backup.
So even though I lost my apps and other settings as a consequence of this process, the worst bit now is that SMS doesn't work.
If I set "Messaging" to be the default SMS app, I can't send any texts - just tells me "Could not Send" I can't receive texts either.
If i use "Hangouts" as the defalt messaging app, I can send texts, any SMS show up as Notifications, but when I look at the 'conversation' the SMS texts that I have recieved (or sent) are not within hangouts
No if i follow the advice to do a repair - i.e. a factory reset and start again, this will probably put me in the same place - and I'd have to try and download and set-up my appliactions once again...
Has anyone got any ideas on wht to try?
I've tried swapping the "SMS" acoount settings in hangouts between "SMS" and my google id with no success.
Thanks
So if I understand you correctly you did not try to repair the phone software, right? I would recommend that you do so. Before trying to restore the backup you have, try sending SMS again to see if it works. After this, restore the backup again and test if the problem persists. If it does, it's something in the backup that's causing the issues to happen.
I guess I was hoping to have a suggestion to try something specific rather then start from scratch again.
I was put off doing a factory reset, because all of the App settings disappear and the Apps need to be reinstalled. i.e. I need to re-download and set them all up again which is a chore. I guess I'm used to ios and iphone which includes apps in the backup and restore process.
If I understand you then it sounds like you think it is likely that something in the "backup" that is incompatible with the new version of Android that the repair center installed on the phone without asking me.
So it sounds like I can either loose all of the data on my phone and have SMS, or have my data and no SMS...
