Hi,
I'm really enjoying my new Sony Smart Watch 2. It pairs nicely with the Sony Z Ultra phone I have, and it worked well until last night when I charged the watch using a computer USB port. The watch switched itself off and remained off for several hours after it was unplugged. Now when you push the power button on the side, the watch backlights blinks once and stays off.
I've tried reseting the watch (from the watch settings and tapping the nfc on the back of the phone), reinstalling the latest firmware from sony update, and pairing the watch again on the phone. None of these seemed to have changed the backlight "blink". Changing the display birghtness from the watch settings has no effect.
Is there a fix for this or will I have to send the watch back to Sony for repairs?
Thanks!
Wally
Try charging your SW2 via wall socket for some time and check if you're able to boot it properly.
Let me know how it goes.
Hi,
I left my watch connected to the computer overnight, the battery gauge shows 100% charged. Turned the watch on this morning. Same issue.
I also tried uninstalling all watchapps from the phone, reset the watch, and reapplyied the latest firmware to see if it made any difference. Unfortunately, no change was noted.
Other than the backlight problem, the watch functions fine, it is responsive to touch, and events flash up on the screen. The only issue is the backlight no longer stays on (backlight flashes for about 0.1 seconds when the power button is pushed to wake the watch up).
I can try charging the watch from the AC/mains plug tonight to see if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
Wally
Update,
I tried charging via the AC/mains last night. It didn't make a change in the backlight not coming on. I'll wait for a response through Monday, then I'll contact the vendor to see if I can exchange the watch.

this just happened to me as well. Charged the watch and there is no more backlight. Multiple power cycles still no go.
Is this a beta product we've been testing for Sony ?
This has happened to me as well - only after having had the watch for 2 days - with still well more than 1/2 battery left I might add!
I tried resetting the watch back to factory settings, charging the watch and cycling through on/off.... nothing works.
The backlight momentarily "flashes" when I press the side button so it appears functional but just won't stay lit for more an a second (or less) which is useless.
I'm pretty unimpressed... If this watch had worked out, I was considering buying a Z2 but if I don't see a solution in the next two days to this issue, i'm returning the watch and buying a Samsung Galaxy S5 instead (along with the Samsung watch).
A promise, Sony, not a threat.
