Slow WiFi / problems with Bluetooth Low Energy

Hi there

If I use WiFi and Bluetooth together, the Internet connection over WiFi is extremely slow. If I switch off Bluetooth, I have a very strong throughput again.

I use my Sony Xperia Z1 with Android 4.4.4, Build 14.4.A.0.108

As far as I could see it, it's the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol. I had a Sony Smartband in use. The Smart band or its app I've uninstalled and now I have again full throughput if I use WiFi and Bluetooth together.

Please fix it, I want my smartband can use it again and then still be able to surf with a reasonable speed.

Have you tried this on other speed test sites as well? You're getting very low speeds even with bluetooth off. I also tested that speed test site from here on a computer connected with 100/100 fiber and it tells me my connection speed is 8kbit/s so it looks like that site is giving wrong results.

But bluetooth and WiFi uses the same frequency (unless you have an access point that uses the 5GHz band) so bluetooth can slow down WiFi a little bit but not so much that it would cause any issues.

I  have the same results on other speedtests-sites, with 2,4GHz and 5GHz.

What is the connection speed of this WiFi network and have you tested with other networks? Even with bluetooth off your connection is slower than a 56K modem.

If you have a PC on the same network, try connecting the phone to PC Companion over WiFi and transfer some files and see if it's really this slow.

I have a 300 Mbit / s WLAN and spark in WLAN-Standard 802.11n+g+b on the frequency bands 2.4 and 5.0 GHz on two different channels, both no interference from other WLANs. Behind a cable Internet connection hangs with 50 Mbit / s download speed.

I have the speed problems in each tested by me WLAN (3 pieces)!

My girlfriend used my old Xperia Z, this has also KitKat on it and also a smart band in use. For her, these problems do not exist! Whether WiFi and Bluetooth are available individually or together actively, she always has an excellent speed throughput.
Of 50 Mbit / s download speed it reaches the speed tests a speed of 49 Mbit / s! In my best results (without Bluetooth or Smart Band!) I can do it just at 47 Mbit / s!

In my opinion, it definitely has nothing to do with my WLAN, but with the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol or with the Smart Band App are not 100% working. Without the app I can use Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time and reach almost top speed.

Ok, i think i understand now. On the screenshot you provided it shows that your connection speed without bluetooth is 47.111 kbit/s but it should say 47,111 (47111) kbit/s? 47.111 kbit/s is 0.047Mbit/s so i was a bit confused when you said it works fine without bluetooth.

I've tested this here with a Z1 and a SmartBand but this doesn't happen for me. The 2.4 band is very crowded at my location so the best i can get there is around 19 Mbit/s but i get the same result both with SmartBand connected and bluetooth turned off. On 5GHz i get 90Mbit/s with SmartBand connected (it's maxing out the internet connection).
If this happens also with other networks i recommend that you contact a service location or local support team for assistance.

Hi,

I have the same problem on a Z1c

With BluetoothWithout Bluetooth

Have you found a solution ?

Hi all, my Z1c had the same issue, even without a Bluetooth device connected . Thanks to this thread at least switching Bluetooth off brings wifi speeds back up. I was experiencing wifi download rates of less than dial-up speed when everything else in the house was managing 17mb/sec.

This looks like a widespread issue across a range of Sony phones and tablets (just Google "Sony Xperia slow wifi" and you'll see what I mean...) - could it be a build issue?

My WIFI connection on my Z1 was very slow or wouldn't connect at all with the bluetooth on. I changed my routers settings from 2.4GHz band to 5GHz band. I then connected my phone to the new 5GHz band and it worked. Haven't had a problem since..

I have thw same problem. To overcome I have to return to the factory settings. But after sometime the problem occurs again.
The problem is about the smartband talk app. When it is installed activating the bluetooth reduces dramatically the wifi bandwidth. If I turnoff the bluetooth or uninstall the smartband app thw wifi recovers it's bandwidth. I made a search on the net regarding this issue. They say it is a problem regarding the low voltage bluetooth and wifi. Some say using 5GHz wifi solves the problem but my rooter does not support 5GHz frequency. I am tired of getting back on the factory settings. Each return takes hours as I am using many apps plus the settings of all.
I kindly ask to the Support Service Responsibles to produce a solution.
Thanks in advance.
