Just want to know if there is a need to dismantle the unit when replacing the USB Charging Cover (flaps) or it is just snapped on to the unit.
Umm I guess yes becasue those flaps are connected inside the phone ... atleast thats what I think after watching XZ repair video on youtube
Thanks bro. Somebody from the staff of the Sony Xperia Support?
This needs to be replaced at a service center to ensure that the phone still follows the IP classification.
Hi, same here just bought the phone last month and now I am noticing the side flaps is loose. after closing it properly and putting it in my side pocket and somebody called me (vibrating) when I pulledout the phone the flaps is already popped out. This happened to me several times already, I even tried to closed it and put it on top of my table went away and have someone tried to call me 3 times, after 20 mins went back to check and notice the flaps was already about to pop out. I checked if there are dirt or anything that might clog the rubber hooks but it was clean. This is verry alarming since this is an IP certified device. Compared to the cover of the earpiece which is very sealed and sturdy the side flap is a bit shallow and thin.
Now I am scared to even try it in the pool becase the light pressure in the water when submerged might pop the side flap out.
Hi Sony,
Just want to clarify if the issue in the loose charging flaps is an isolated issue? I mean the sony service center said they will replace my unit with a new one, but will it really solve the issue? I am afraid after another month after using the replacement unit problem might come back again.. I am really bothered because I bought ZR over ZL which is a bit more expensive BTW, because of its water proof feature.. Pls need honest answers
Get a charging dock then you never need to open the flap.
You should get the Xperia ZR Dock, that way you won't have to open the flaps/covers that often
Getting a charging dock is not really a long term solution for me. How about if I need to transfer data from my computer to the phone? then what? they would just recommend me to do it via wifi? I mean these movable parts should have been stress tested right? Just a month of use then suddenly it's broken?. I have used my Xperia S for more than a year already and it also has a charging flap and I often open and close it for about 3 times a day to charge or copy files and as of today and it is still snappy and tight. Compared to my Xperia ZR it even has two (2) rubber hooks to secure it where as to my XS with only one. Another thing, I often use my earphone so I need to also open the 3.5 jack flap regularly and as of today it is still tight and snappy considering it has only one (1) rubber hook to secure it. Clearly something is wrong with the charging flap. This is really starting to frustrate me...
I haven't encountured any issues with the flaps on my Xperia Z nor Xperia S, but because the phone is water resistant I want to avoid wear and tear so I use NFC/bluetooth, wifi and the Dock as much as possible. I don't have any other suggestions but to contact your local Sony Center.
