Hello everyone,
I have been considering a Sony Xperia Z1 (C6906) for quite some time now but I do have my concerns. My main concern is the self cracking screen issue. I really do not want to buy a mobile telephone that will have a screen that cracks on its own and then have Sony tell me it's my fault. I have read too many accounts of people handling their Z1 carefully but then having the screen crack on its own and Sony saying that they have no proof and will not cover the damage. I am also concerned about the new software which I have read is very glitchy. I am also concerned about how many accounts I have read of the Z1 overheating and causing hardware damage and how it may be the reason for the self cracking screen. My final concern is the price. It was $619 but there is currently a "sale" which has lowered the price to $599.99. I know that the Sony Xperia Z2 is avaliable in most parts of the world but it isn't available in the United States though I have read that it is coming this summer to the United States. If it is released this summer on Sony's website will that mean that the Xperia Z1 LTE will receive a price cut? I'm willing to wait for a price drop if it is to happen this summer but I don't know what Sony's pricing trends are. I am posting this to ask for opinions and advice about this purchase. Will it be a good one or a regrettable one?
Another concern that I am seeing now is the size. I read that the ZL was disliked because it was too big but it has a 5" screen just like the Z1. Is there something I am missing there?
Hello everyone,
I am well aware about the self cracking glass issue that has plagued the Sony Xperia Z, Z1, and Z2. I think it is a real shame and wish there were answers and corrections made by Sony. What I would like to ask is if there is a difference between early production and later production Z1 hence the reason for the title of Now and Then. I would like to buy a Z1 but so many people have written not to because of the self cracking glass issue as well as overheating issues. Are these problems only with early production Z1 or is this something that all Z1 have?
At the end of the day it is your choice, if you want a big screen mobile or a smaller standard one....i have had a Z & currently use a Z1.....hoping to buy a Z2.
Yes there have been a few issues whenever there is a software update ie the Overheating, this did happen to me but i quickly resolved it by doing a re-install of the update.....
With regards to the Cracking Screens i do have a personnal opinion about the cause, the design of the phone is basically 2 sheets of glass in an aluminium 'framework'....it wont tolerate any sort of bending/flexing ie in jeans front/back pockets whilst walking around/climbing stairs etc.
As mentioned that is my personnal opinion....and no disrespect to anyone who has had this problem....
Look at forums for all the other mobile manufacturers....plenty of problems...
So it is your choice at the end of the day....hope this helps
Personally, I would go for either the HTC One (M8) or the new LG G3 as both are far,far better than the Z1....
I got my Z1 in January and I've had no problems with it other than minor software glitches that resolve when turned off/on or on next update. Carry it in the front and back of my jeans and screen's still in one piece (I don't wear skin-tight jeans though and never sat down with it in my back pocket!). Mine doesn't overheat to any point that concerns me. Have to point out my phone is standard and not rooted. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky owners.
I considered the HTC One but I also heard that it too has several problems which brings up the point that any mobile manufacturer's forum will talk about all the problems their devices have. If I do buy a Z1 and have a screen that ends up cracking then I hope that Sony will cover it under warranty though I have read about how many people could not get a warranty replacement or repair because Sony deemed the damage to be user afflicted and not warranty applicable. I've even considered buying one of those Japanese Docomo Sharp Aquos smartphones but if I do then there will be no warranty support.
What I am also wondering is if it is likely that a release of the Sony Xperia Z2 will cause the price of the Sony Xperia Z1 (C6906 known as Z1 LTE on the Sony Store website) to fall. It is on a "sale" now but it is only $20 off right now.
Z1 price will surely drop with the release of Z2 and that is normal in all flagship releases. It happens all the time so expect a price drop for Z1 when Z2 hits your market.
IMO, I would still prefer to buy an Xperia rather than other flagship phones out there. I do not work for Sony or have any connections with them but I suggest you to buy an Xperia you can afford. I mean all brands receive critism either from users or counterparts, and the truth is other flagship phones have more problems than Xperias. You may want to try an Xperia to prove which is better, but for me Xperia wins...
in my opinion, Z1 has a very good camera and its camera function, but other than that nothing is worth. i bought my Z1 6 months ago and i send it to the service center for 2 times due to yellowis screen and insifficent charging power.
the screen issue is fixed but the charging problem is still there. im kind of regret to buy this phone there are alot more good phones in the market.
