Auto rotate issue with new update

Before the update whenever I turned auto rotate off it would stay locked in whatever orientation I had it in. Now when I turn auto rotate off it goes to the default orientation. This is really annoying for when I want to read as I prefer to read with the screen in a vertical orientation. Do I have to get a third party app to fix this? Am I the only one annoyed by this?

This is how it works in the new update when it comes to auto rotation. I'm not sure but there might be some 3rd party app that have the function you are looking for. I will pass on your feedback internally.

"This is how it works in the new update when it comes to auto rotation." - support-speak that means "there is a bug".

If the behaviour is to always lock to default orientation, then the "feature" should be called "No rotation".

"Lock orientation" means just that: whatever orientation exists currently, lock on that one.

Very annoying. Is this a Sony feature, or part of Android 4.2.2?

I am also having problems with screen rotation.

I know a third party app will fix the problem, but why have auto rotate if it does not work in the first place.

I had no problems with my Samsung tab 2,maybe made a mistake buying the Experia, will have to do more homework before buying another tablet.

Sir, you have got to be kidding me. What would be a logical reason to justify that you no longer can keep the tablet in a vertical mode? Are you saying that you purposefully removed that option? This is clearly a bug and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. I use the tablet almost exclusively in vertical mode. Looking forward to your feedback on this and a fix for this bug - not a third-party-app fix, an update via Android update center. We have bought the most expensive tablet on the market (at least one of), we have been waiting ages for Android update (comparing to other tablets users), and it still came with bugs.

Totally agree with the above comments.

Why will Sony not admit that they have got it wrong, how can the current implementation of auto rotate be considered normal? The nexus 7 2012 has gone from Android 4.1, 4.2 to 4.3 and every time auto rotate has allowed you to lock the screen in landscape OR portrait. The central navigation buttons are bad enough but not being able to lock to portrait makes the device. 😞
