ANT+ - no device seen

I just got a new Z3 (Z6603) upgraded to 23.1.A.1.28.

ANT Radio Service as well as ANT+ Plugin Service is installed.

Bluetooth as well as NFC started (as well as stopped).

Tested with a Garmin (classic) ANT+ HR band, a CooSpo dual ANT+/BLE and a Globalsat cadence sensor. All ANT+ work fine with other devices.

However, ANT+ devices cannot be seen and there is no ANT+ icon in the status bar.

I have tested IpBike and Endomondo, no error message. If no ANT+ services installed, the apps raises errors of course.

ANT+Heart Rate Grapher fails to, but has an error message: "Plugin Access Failure: OTHER_FAILURE".

Nothing seen in Diagnostics.

I have not seen similar issues around the web, but also no confirmed usage after the Lollipop upgrade.

Hints?

ANT+ was an important feature in selecting the Z3.

Sorry to hear that you have issues with ANT+.

I have not heard of any issues with ANT+ but i will forward this internally for further investigation.

We have investigated this but i'm afraid we're unable to find any issue with ANT+. Would it be possible for you to provide us with an event log from your phone when this happens?

To do this, first go to Settings -> About phone and tap "Build number" 7 times. This will enable a menu called "Developer options" under Settings. In this menu, enable the option called "USB debugging".

Reproduce the issue and then go to Settings -> Developer options -> Take bug report.
When the event log has been created you will get a notification that you can tap to share to for example Google Drive. Please send me a private message here on the forum with the event log.

Hello

ANT+ is working now. (No icon in the notification bar (other than the user apps)).

However, I am not sure what was the problem.

I had been looking at the logcat (planned to offer it anyway) but not seen anything myself. To get a clean log (with possibily something at startup) I reboot the Z3 (again), but then the HR belt worked at next startup. I believe I have reinstalled the same versions of ANT Radio Service and ANT+ Plugin Manager that do not have any configurations either so I do not know what the problem was.

A troubleshooting page mentioning the ANT+ Radio Service an Plugin Manager would be a good thing.

Glad to hear that it works now.

Not sure what could have caused this though.

We tested it with a Garmin HRM1G and these software versions:

ANT+ Heart Grapher 3.0.0

ANT+ Plugin Service 3.5.0

ANT Radio Service 4.12.0

In case you should see this again, could you please capture a log and send it to me?

HR worked fine today (I assume Cadence/Speed works too).

I tested with the same versions of SW (and more) and the same HR strap (and a crappy CooSpo). Part of my problem was that I was not sure if I had the right SW. It is otherwise good to not install SW that not everyone need, the preloaded SW must normally be updated anyway.

Sending the log I captured when I saw the problem (but no bug report created).

Will sure send a new log if I see the problem again.

Note: Lost my first nick for some reason, had to get anew...

Hello,

my device (Xperia Z1 Compact D5503) had the same problem as described above.

Maybe other users are using a heavily battery optimized and modified system, too.

My problems were caused by the deep hibernation feature of Greenify.

Extract from my logs:

09-26 12:20:25.345: E/SharedPreferencesImpl(21447): Couldn't create directory for SharedPreferences file /data/data/com.dsi.ant.plugins.antplus/shared_prefs/ant_plugins_logging.xml
09-26 12:20:25.348: I/RuntimeSkinInfo(1413): com.sonymobile.runtimeskinning.LAF_VERSION in android blocks runtime skin from being applied, version value=2
09-26 12:20:25.426: I/DeepHyber(1413): Restrict awakening service binding: Intent { flg=0x10 cmp=com.dsi.ant.plugins.antplus/.heartrate.HeartRateService }
09-26 12:20:25.426: I/DeepHyber(1413): Refuse explicit service request for hibernated app: ComponentInfo{com.dsi.ant.plugins.antplus/com.dsi.ant.plugins.antplus.heartrate.HeartRateService}09-26 12:20:25.426: W/ActivityManager(1413): Unable to start service Intent { flg=0x10 cmp=com.dsi.ant.plugins.antplus/.heartrate.HeartRateService } U=0: not found
09-26 12:20:25.426: E/a(21447): BBD20000: Binding to plugin failed

As you can see, "DeepHyber" refuses the execution of the service. DeepHyber is part of Greenify.

I really hope that this helps someone out there.
