Just going to add my experience & wisdom to this.

Currently my brand new E1 says it's now completely up to date as verified by the Update Center.

Android version is 4.4.2, not 4.4.4

I strongly suspect that Sony is no longer testing later Andriod releases against this model of Xperia. The reason is that I am in North America. If it was supported already, this would likely be one of the very first regions to be certified for 4.4.4

At some point all companies have to limit how far back they go model wise when performing certifications of OS updates- otherwise it's a huge amount of QA time and that's very expensive.
