Xperia XA1 - Set SD card as default storage

Would anyone be able to help me with the following issue. I own a Sony Xperia XA1. I have installed a 256GB micro SD card. I am having issues setting the card as default storage. I have been able to successfully move some applications to the SD card. But most of the applications on the device save their data on the internal storage not the SD card. I am sure that there is a setting that prioritises the SD card as default storage. Can anyone assist?

there's no global setting like this, and only some applications have a setting to change where they store data. you could format the SD card as internal storage, but that means that 1. the card will be wiped in the process, 2. you won't be able to access the contents of the card if you use it with any other device, 3. you'll have to wipe the card if you'll want to use it with any other device.

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me where to find the command to format the card as internal storage? My phone is running Android 7.

keep in mind that I'm not entirely sure if that's going to work, as I've never done that. I also know that it used to be an option, not sure if it's available in your particular model.

Settings > Storage & memory > three dots in the top right corner > Advanced > Storage > SD card > three dots in the top right corner > Storage settings > Format will wipe your card. after you eject it insert it again, it SHOULD offer a choice to format it as either portable or internal storage, but once again, I'm not 100% sure. SD cards on Android are finnicky and Sony might have disabled the option because I know some people have had some problems with it.
